Scott Walker es un brillante cantante/compositor americano dado a recluirse que ha vivido en Inglaterra durante los últimos 40 años. Noel Scott Engel, su nombre real, tuvo una efímera carrera en EE.UU. en su adolescencia antes de irse a Inglaterra en 1965 para librarse del servicio militar. Como líder de los llamados Walker Brothers (no eran hermanos), se convirtió en una estrella de la invasión británica. Tras su disolución, empezó una carrera en solitario dedicada al cabaret y la chanson europea. Sus fans iban desde Bowie a Radiohead.

Walker se ha dedicado a bastante mas que a la musica de cabaret y la «Chanson» es un termino para definir a cierto tipo de musica francesa relacionada con Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour y Jaques Brel ( del que hizo versiones en sus primeros años ). Su musica se relaciona mas con la experimentacion sonora proveniente del modernismo, el Jazz modal, y la electronica. En el 78 y luego de Nite Flights, ultimo disco de los Walker Brothers, comienza una etapa de ostracismo mediatico, rota solamente en 3 oportunidades ,con Climate of Hunter de 1984, Tilt de 1996 y The Drift el 2006, ademas de algunas colaboraciones, soundtracks y productor para otros artistas como Pulp. Recomendable es tambien el documental 30 Century Man (2006) del director Stephen Kijak el cual recorre de manera notable la carrera de Walker hasta los dias de hoy, y muestra imagenes exclusivas de la grabacion de The Drift.

Yes, 'til The Band Comes In is rather good. Especially Little Things That Keep Us Together and Time Operator. Although I'm only going by the songs on the boxset, I've not heard all of it, shamefully.
