The Socs one thing Face has over Rakim is staying power...they came out close to the same time...and where's Ra at...not sayin he wasn't nice on the mic , cos he was a beast....look at the body of work between the two....

hands down the most over looked mc in the game!!!!!! he wrote rymes for bushwick n willie d from his ghetto boyz dayz, plus he can go head to head with jay-z,nas,king tee,ice cube, snoop dog. this is nothing to sneeze at cause he does rank up there with the likes of rakim, slick rick, drez(from black sheep) and gurantee lil wayne WOULD GET BLOWN OUT THE BOX if he ever got on a serious track with scarface.

but scarface is flawless when it comes to message, versatility, passion, charisma, storytellings. there are certain rappers that are not that technical but are heralded as great lyricists, face is one of them, so is krs, nas, chuck d etc.

I would not say that Scarface is better then Rakim at all....wow...The man that is acclaimed to have written the book for mcing. Anyways, lyricism is alot about flexing your mcing ability in Hip Hop, its not just about what you are saying (bear with me). A Mc's lyrical abilities, in Hip Hop, are determined by internal rhyming, metaphors, rhyming couplets, vocabulary, message, concepts, versatility, and originality...Sorry that I don't think Face is the greatest because his ability to story tell.

I just noticed I misspelled audience. I should overlook my typing before posting. :(........And of course Scarface is not better than all East Coast rappers. He is my personal pick for rappers outside of the East Coast though.

yes, lyricism is not necessarily connected with the usage of big words, and no, scarface is not better than all east coast rappers. i'd put him higher than jay-z, nas, rakim, daddy kane, but lower than krs, g rap, chuck d

Lyricism has nothing to do with the ability to use a thesaurus. You can give complex ideas and emotions while staying within the bounds of basic English. What does have to do with lyricism is how the words are used and that a connection is met wtih the audienence.

no it makes you a better lyricist when you use uncommon words. So yes, scarface is a great storyteller but he is not on the lyricist level as Andre. And yes someone said something along the lines of "scarface > anyother eastcoast rapper" so what would you assert to then? Crazy shit does not mean big words or highpoints of english, maybe I will be more easy and say uncommon shit. Dre has always been on that and that is what I am getting across. Not only this, but I only used one example that I saw as impressive, which I had derived from an interview from Talib Kweli when showing an example that Andre is one of the best ever.
