El trabajo de este artista sonoro japonés se caracteriza por una ilimitada búsqueda al interior de la estructura del sonido, a través de su manipulación numérica. Usando la tecnología informática hasta sus límites, Ikeda ha desarrollado toda una serie de métodos «microscópicos» para componer y construir sus interfaces, espacializaciones, experimentos acústicos y audiovisuales. Desde 1995 ha sido uno de los artistas más intensamente involucrados en el arte sonoro, a través de instalaciones, conciertos y grabaciones discográficas, hoy insoslayables dentro del género. Sus álbumes +/- de 1996, 0 Degrees, de 1998 y Matrix del 2000, han sido señalados unánimemente por la crítica como ejemplos de la música electrónica moderna más radical e innovadora. Con el germano Carsten Nicolai ha creado el proyecto de colaboración Cyclon, donde ambos exploran la estructura de los errores binarios y de la repetición para crear música algorítmica en diálogo con módulos audiovisuales sincronizados, que permiten la visualización del sonido en tiempo real. El versátil campo de investigación, intereses y experimentos de Ikeda se puede verificar en la colaboración que ha tenido con artistas en apariencia diferentes como son el coreógrafo William Forsythe, el arquitecto Toyo Ito o el colectivo multimedia Dumb Type, con quienes trabaja desde 1994.

his exhibition in tokyo was great, however i stupidly rushed through alot of it. the staff were pretty amazed when they saw how dirty my socks were (you had to take your shoes off for part of it). hahaha.
