A dramatic single from the extraordinary new album from Lykke Li (pronounced: lickey lee), streaming exclusively at Hype Machine this week.
It features tribal drums and surfer guitars with Lykke Li's vocals dominating over the top. It's a come hither, to put it mildly, and is meant to be played loud. It was released as a single last November, as a taster for Wounded Rhymes, with an equally dramatic accompanying video.
The video presents Lykke Li in tribal costume on a theatrical set with movie images and stills directly behind her. It's monochromatic and shiny with flashes of light and sharp editing. … -

Roy Orbison

Just discovered him recently, realizing that I have heard many of his hit songs already and their gorgeous melodies reside in my subconsciousness. He was gifted with one of the most impressive voices of all time (in terms of both technical and emotional range), but for some reason never gained as much popularity as Elvis Presley or even Jeff Buckley. Maybe it had something to do with his looks? In any case, it's a pity. He's amazing. You don't have to look at him, just listen and feel what he's singing. He convinces you that the essence of all music is blues.

Guess That Cover! 2
3 Mar 2007, 4:54 de Carali
Since the first one went over so well, and I have a ridiculously large collection of covers I decided to do a part 2.
For those who didn't see the first one here's the rules:
Essentially the idea of this game is I list two or more artists that have all done a cover of the same song at some point, and you have to guess what song it is a cover of. Please don't use a search engine, that kind of defeats the purpose.
For example: Laura Branigan, Jessica Andrews, Tina Arena
-answer:
Show Me Heaven
1. Allison Crowe, Joan Baez, Rick Springfield, A Perfect Circle, Etta James (
Imagine)
2. Ronnie Spector, Wynonna, Travis Tritt
3. Juice Newton, The Pretenders, Bonnie Tyler (
Angel Of The Morning)
4. Billy Joel, Ronnie Spector, Keith Moon, BJ Thomas (Don't Worry Baby)
5. The Carpenters, Bobbie Gentry, Ella Fitzgerald (
I'll Never Fall In Love Again)
6. Devo, Sandie Shaw, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding ((I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction)

Cover versions worth listening to (IMHO)
14 Nov 2006, 0:02 de Twickers
I'm usually not that fond of musicians "stealing" from others and it's a shame how much money this way of music making holds for them. But sometimes a new interpretation of a classic can be quite touching.
First of all I have to mention Sagi-Rei - a man, his guitar and lots of feeling. Especially his versions of L'Amour Toujours (Gigi d'Agostino) and Rhytm is a dancer (Snap!) really get to me.
Original --> Cover Artist
It's Oh So Quiet--> Björk
Word Up -->Rewind 4 and Korn
The Boys Of Summer --> The Ataris
Lost Love --> Molella
Running Up That Hill --> Placebo and Within Temptation (it's so amazing that this is the same song!)
Hallelujah --> Rufus Wainwright (now I know there are a lot of covers for this (like Jeff Buckley mentioned in the comments, but from all of them I prefer Wainwright)
My December --> Josh Groban
Everytime We Touch --> Cascada (but only the Candlelight version)
Hurt --> Johnny Cash

the 2006-10-29 Sunday Fetch-it
30 Oct 2006, 2:01 de GregKNicholson
This really is supposed to be on a Friday. Honest.
So, let's call this week's prize a "Moderately Alliterative Yet Still Stupid-Sounding Sunday Fetch-it Pre-emption Point™ (MAYSSSSFPP™)" (midnight schmidnight) – if you've already scrobbled the song I'm about to recommend, you win one. Lucky you.
First, though, the usual B-movie – a synopsis of this Friday's Roundtable, with guests Ed from Larrikin Love, Nemone from 6 Music and Fyfe Dangerfield from Guillemots (hooray!).
Also, before I get on with it, Steve Lamacq did a set at York Racecourse last Saturday for the University of York, that I was at. He followed the Vengaboys on stage (Steve was not aware this would be the case when he agreed to do it), so there was no problem getting to the front. During the songs, virtually everyone at the front got his autograph, several people got photos with him, and my mate Phil even managed to bum a cigarette off him mid-set, all without so much as a grumble from Lammo. The butt is now in his wallet. …
