Rise Against es una banda de hardcore melódico de Chicago, Illinois, EEUU. Se formó en 1999 bajo el nombre de Transistor Revolt, con el cual sacaron una demo autoproducida y homónima en el 2000. En 2001 firmaron con Fat Wreck Chords, donde publicarían sus dos primeros trabajos, The Unraveling y Revolutions Per Minute en 2001 y 2003 respectivamente. Tras el gran éxito cosechado con los dos primeros trabajos en el circuito independiente mundial, firmaron con Dreamworks Records, y tras ser absorbida ésta por Universal, acabaron hospedados en una filial, Geffen Records, compartiendo discográfica con grupos como Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, Misfits, Blink 182 o The Who. Allí publicarían en 2005 Siren Songs Of The Counter Culture, tras haber remasterizado y publicado de nuevo The Unraveling con Fat Wreck y con dos nuevas canciones (Gethsemane y Join The Ranks). Su 4º álbum de estudio fue publicado con el título de The Sufferer And The Witness en 2006, además, pocos meses más tarde, publicaron un DVD documental llamado How We Survive sobre la historia del grupo, sus componentes y fans que incluye actuaciones en directo y videos de promoción.
La formación inicial de Rise Against, heredera de 88 Fingers Louie, constaba de 4 miembros: Tim McIlrath (voz), Joe Principe (bajo y coros), Brandon Barnes (batería) y Mr.Precision (guitarra y coros), los cuales grabaron el primer disco de la banda con el famoso productor punk Mass Giorgini.

Well, in all honesty RPM is there best album, no doubt about it, hell its one of the best punk albums of all time, and one of the, if not the biggest seller for Fat Wreck albums ever. RPM is there best, it includes so many of their best work, sure SSOTCC is great, too with the Unraveling, and TSATW is good too, and hell ATR's great also, but RPM, well RPM is Godly [2] I couldn't agree with you more. RPM has to be my favourite album of all time. It's just unbelievably awesome.
