    • Damn, if I'm not lucky!

      9 Jun 2008, 21:40 de gorgonzola

Wilco's Sky Blue Sky is one of the very few albums released within the last couple of years that I've been really anxious to hear. I just haven't seen it anywhere at a cheap enough price.

A couple of days ago I went skimming through the CD racks of a local department store and noticed the CD sitting on the mid-price shelf. They were asking about 12 euros for it. It didn't seem cheap enough but I briefly considered buying it anyway. Had it been the special edition, I might well have bought it - but as things stood, I passed on it.

As I was about to leave the store, I noticed a small, inconspicuous bargain bin hidden away between two shelves. I thought to myself that I might as well look and see what's in it, although I was quite certain that I'd only find CDs that they've been trying to get rid of for the last three centuries or so.

My initial expectations seemed to be confirmed by the sight of dozens of cheap compilation albums containing music that perhaps should rather be compiled at the nearest dump. …

Okay, so what have I bought this time...

Well, all sorts of stuff. A bootleg compilation (shhh, don't tell anyone) from Interpol called Unknown Pleasure *wocka wocka*. It has been compiled by some Ian Curtis fans, surprisingly. The vinyl is white and looks very funky. I broadened my The Decemberists collection by buying The Crane Wife. It's a nice album but not as deep and touchy as the previous one.

I've also bought a few singles as well: Invincible7" and I Still Remember7". The b-side of the Muse single is the brilliant "Glorious". It was very daring from Muse to NOT include this song on their Black Holes and Revelations album. Well, I'm not complaining since I like to buy singles.

But my most precious purchase lately is the latest project from Jori Hulkkonen and Jerry Valuri called Processory. Their self titled debut album sounds, from time to time, like what most of the Finnish wannabe post-punk and new wave bands should sound like. And these guys here do mainly house music. …
