Primordial es considerada por muchos fans como la banda sonora del mar y la tempestad. Es la abanderada del pagan/folk metal de Irlanda. Formada en 1987, actualmente está compuesta por: Alan «Nemtheanga» (voz), Ciáran MacUiliam (guitarra), Michael O’Floinn (guitarra), Pól MacAmlaigh (bajo) y Simon O’Laoghaire (batería).
En su discografía cuentan hasta la fecha con 6 trabajos de estudio, además de la demo «Dark Romanticism», el EP The Burning Season, dos demos y dos split, uno con Katatonia y otro con Mael Mórdha. En sus trabajos han ido combinando elementos de distintos estilos de metal como el doom, y el black, pero siempre sobre una base de pagan/folk.
Su disco más reciente es «To The Nameless Dead», editado en 2007.
