Poison the well es una banda de hardcore proveniente de Miami, florida.
Tan solo quedan tres miembros originales, los cuales son considerados el núcleo creativo y compositivo actual de esta, el guitarrista Ryan Primack, el baterista Chris Hornbrook y el vocalista Jeffrey Moreira el cual aunque no pertenecía a la banda durante su primer álbum, en los cuatro siguientes fue un pilar importante para su éxito.
El primer nombre de la banda era “An Acre Lost” el cual fue producto de dos de sus integrantes originales, el vocalista Aryeh Lehrer y el guitarrista Ryan Primack. Un poco después de su primera presentacion como “An Acre Lost” el nombre fue cambiado a Poison the well. Poison the well lanzó su primer album Distance Makes The Heart Grow Fonder Only en 1998. El álbum obtuvo la atención de Trustkill Records con los cuales firmaron un contrato multi-album. PTW (modo como usualmente se abrevia el nombre de la banda) lanzó su primer álbum con Trustkill en 1999, cuando los integrantes sólo tenían 18 años, The Opposite of December… A Season of Separation. Este disco causo una enorme aceptación en toda la escena de la música underground, incluso la revista “Guitar World” lo nombro como una de los mejores discos hardcore de todos los tiempos, fue ubicado en el lugar numero 8 del ranking.
