  • Pixies at the Troxy

    7 Jun 2010, 1:55 de UncleDavenage

Thu 3 Jun – Pixies, Tribes

This was the fourth time I have seen them since the reunion and it was brilliant, almost as good as the amazing first time in The Forum back in 2004. The band played all the usual classics plus they had actually asked for requests via email a few weeks before the gig.

Kim Deal told us they had to do some practicing because of "the crazy song requests you Brits made." They played Break My Body, Rock Music & Dig for Fire which made me totally happy.

I left the Troxy wanting more and wishing I had bought a ticket for Friday as well.

    1. How did you get into 21? (Echo & The Bunnymen)
Their song The Killing Moon was in the soundtrack for Donnie Darko

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22? (The Cooper Temple Clause)
    New Toys. (L)

    3. What's your favorite lyric by 2? (Negative)
The whole album Anorectic has great lyrics. Maybe 'I take colors of longing and paint you on my wall' from In Memoriam (Immortal Peace). We Can't Go On sings something along the lines of 'come enjoy this dance on the edge, together it's softer to fall'. Yet again, the whole album's lyrics are great.

  • Surfer Rosa + a note on the 'gish v loveless' entry

    9 Jul 2007, 18:23 de Inertia_90

I will never forget the first time I heard Gigantic. I was a freshman in high school and a major Nirvana acolyte. Since I had given and bought Kurt Cobain's journal (which I still feel rather dirty about owning; I adore Courtney Love, but it's in very bad taste to release your dead husband's private diaries), I began checking out some of the bands he namechecks throughout. After Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth, I moved on to Pixies, downloading "Gigantic."

SIDE NOTE: This is proof that downloading isn't going to kill the record industry. I illegally downloaded "Gigantic," sampled the rest of the tracks on Amazon, read countless positive reviews and decided to invest $10 in buying a copy. As long as there are good records, someone will buy them. On the other hand, why should I pay $15 for the fucking Fergie record that has one decent (and I'm being charitable there) single and a bunch of filler? It's bad music that's killing the record industry. Yay for tangents!

This Brian May I share Fear My Thoughts upon The Sleeping, and I am very intrested in your Dilated Peoples Hidden in Plain View on it.

In reading this, you will be Wishing Well you are asleep.

I find that I am the type of person that could just sleep all day long, and really not give a shit about it. I also find that with myself during the week I have to have two Alarm Calls and half a dozen Snooze Functions to get myself out of bed on time, however on the Weekend once my Eyes Open my feet are straight out of bed. Admitedly there is more fun to be had on the Weekend rather than a boring day at work.

Im the type of person that will deprive + Break My Body of sleep, by cutting my sleeping hours short of a couple every other day, and then wonder why mid-week Im feeling so tired. I have been knowns to catch up on these hours in some of the strangest times and places, Give it ago next time you get a dinner hour, find somewhere quite to go, and set a clock and have a sleep…

  • Song-A-Day: August!

    8 Ago 2006, 22:07 de evilsoybean

    1. New Slang- Beautiful in it's simplicity. But I'm sure you know that by now.
    2. The Electric Version- Great opener to a great album.
    3. Baby C'mon
    4. Common People- Ooh, a message. This song just builds up and up, and just when you think it can build up no more, it continues to build.
    5. Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset- Great early Modest Mouse.
    6. Do The Whirlwind- Great song. And has anyone heard the mashup with Busta Rhymes' "Touch It"? It's very good.
    7. Don't Quit While You're Ahead- What? A song from a Broadway musical? Drood just might have the best soundtrack I've ever heard from a Broadway musical.
    8. Chasing Heather Crazy
    9. Something to Look Forward To- This is the quintessential Spoon track. The percussiony guitar, the tambourine, the falsetto. Anyway, it's a good song.
    10. Did I Step On Your Trumpet- I think I feel the same way about Danielson as I do about Deerhoof. Daniel Smith is a songwriting genius, but his voice is very irritating.
