Pink Floyd (formado en 1964 en Cambridge, Reino Unido, por Roger Waters, Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Richard Wright y Bob Klose) es una banda británica famosa por su rock psicodélico, letras filosóficas, experimentación musical y elaboradas presentaciones en vivo. Su nombre fue adaptado por Barrett de la conjunción de los nombres de pila de los bluseros norteamericanos Pink Anderson y Floyd Council.
Lanzaron su primer album The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn en 1967, aunque previamente habían editado los singlesSee Emily Play y Arnold Layne, siendo por aquella época Syd Barrett la indiscutida figura y el líder de la banda. Sin embargo, su adicción a drogas psicotrópicas como el LSD mellaron la salud mental de Syd, por lo que en 1968 se incorpora a David Gilmour como quinto miembro a fin de suplir los intervalos no lúcidos de Barrett, quien finalmente dejó la banda por sus problemas mentales, siendo reemplazado completamente por Gilmour. En el segundo disco de Pink Floyd, A Saucerful of Secrets , sólo aparece un tema de Barrett: Jugband Blues.
Ya estando así conformada la banda se toman algunos años y algunos discos en experimentación buscando el verdadero sonido de Pink Floyd. Así aparecen el ya mencionado «A saucerful of secrets», además de otros discos bastante experimentales tales como Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother y Meddle. También compusieron las bandas sonoras de las películas Music From The Film ‘More’ (disco homónimo) y La Vallé (Obscured by Clouds).
