No. Not really.
This is the third night in a row that I've stayed up until early in the AM just to get my music fix. I really should get some sleep. BUT, being the master at procrastination in all aspects of my every day life, I'm going to fill out this pointless survey instead:
Name your top 10 most played bands on Last.fm:
1.
The Associates
2.
Bauhaus
3.
Tones on Tail
4.
Tuxedomoon
5.
16 Horsepower
6.
Siouxsie and the Banshees
7.
Man Man
8.
Modern Eon
9.
Bubonic Plague
10.
Tears for Fears
Just realized that I don't really listen to half of these artists as much anymore. but ANYWAY...
Now answer the questions according to the numbers:
What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
Arabian knights. Still one of my favorites by them.
What is your favourite album of 2?
In the Flat Field. Used to love listening to this while going to work, but had to roll my windows up since I'd always get weird, confused, and disgusted looks from other drivers.
What is your favourite lyric that 5 has sung?
"You are not needed here to help me feel low down. I'm doin' it fine all on my own." (
Horse Head)
Oh, unwanted angst. haha.
How many times have you seen 4 live?
I'm ashamed to say never. I really ought to see them while they're still performing, but they must have Mr. Winston Tong with them, otherwise it'll feel... lacking. I can't come up with a better word at the moment. At 3 in the morning, my vocabulary dwindles down to about 100 words.
What is your favourite song by 7?
Only one? Well, how about I choose my top-played track by them, to save myself from the pain of choosing just one.
Black Mission Goggles. First song I heard by them, and always a treat for my unwilling passengers on long car rides.
What is a good memory you have considering the music of 10?
Dad. I miss him.
Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad?
I've never been sad while listening to Tones on Tail. They do have some darker tunes, but nothing sad. What's sad is that
Go! is their most popular track and the only one that the majority of people (who've heard them) know. I'm in the minority when I say that it's one of my least favorite tracks by them. Whenever I hear it, all I can think about are bulging transvestites in ugly shoes.
What is your favourite lyric that 2 has sung?
That's difficult. Pretty much all of their lyrics are priceless.
First one I can think of:
"Nerves like nylon, nerves like steel" (
Nerves)
What is your favourite song by 9?
I hate picking favorites. Excuse me... favourites.
but one I play a lot is
bad moods.
How did you get in to 3?
I was obsessed with
Bauhaus, and wanted to listen to anything and everything that was related to them--
Tones on Tail,
Dalis Car,
Love and Rockets,
Peter Murphy solo,
Daniel Ash solo,
David J solo, the band (
BlackBlack) of the DAUGHTERS of Kevin Haskins... like I said, obsessed.
but out of all the Bauhaus offspring, Tones remains my favorite.
What was the first song you heard by 1?
The Affectionate Punch. Got me hooked the first time I heard it, and it remains one of my favorites.
What is your favourite song by 4?
Desire. First song I heard by them as well.
How many time have you seen 9 live?
Never. I don't even know if they're still together. If not, I can always hope to see
Geneva Jacuzzi live.
What is a good memory you have concerning 2?
Dancing uncontrollably to the
In the Flat Field album, which was my preferred method of exercising.
Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad?
They do have some gloomy-sounding songs, but none that make me sad.
What is your favourite album of 5?
Sackcloth and Ashes, hands down.
What is your favourite lyric that 3 has sung?
"Gini, Gini, look at me, Gini. I let the stare that tries to cripple you slide down my back. Gini, Gini, speak to me, Gini. I let the words they shove in front of you crawl right back." (Lions)
What is your favourite song of 1?
No, no, no, only one favorite will not do. How about my top... ten?
In no order:
Gloomy Sunday, Tell Me Easter's On Friday, Q Quarters, The Affectionate Punch, A Matter of Gender, Perhaps, White Car In Germany, Breakfast, Skipping, The Best Of You.
What is your favourite song of 10?
Again with the favorites!
Top five in no order:
Mothers Talk, Head Over Heels, Everybody Wants to Rule the World (classic), Shout, Brian Wilson Said.
How many times have you seen 8 live?
Never. and it's unfortunate that they're no longer around.
What is your favourite album of 1?
How about two favorites?
Sulk and
Fourth Drawer Down.
What is a great memory you have considering 9?
Um... driving to the airport at 4 in the morning while having
bad moods break the silence of the empty streets.
What was the first song you heard by 8?
Euthenics, since it happened to be their most easily accessible.
and that took much longer than I expected.
----------
Am I tired yet? Yes, I am.
but am I going to sleep now? Not just yet!
Another, stolen.
Of all the bands/artists in your cd/record collection, which one do you own the most albums by?
Strangely, it's a tie between
David Bowie and
Opeth, which are two completely different artists.
Pop and glam rock versus progressive death metal.
What was the last song you listened to?
Pram -
Track of the Cat
What's in your record/cd player right now?
In my CD player: a mix CD I made for someone (had to test it out to make sure all the songs played through)
On my record player:
Tones on Tail -
Pop
but my favorite track,
Lions, skips :[
What song would you say sums you up?
No idea.
What's your favourite local band?
None, really. The local bands here just don't appeal to me.
What was the last show you attended?
Nothing I can remember.
What was the greatest show you've ever been to?
I've honestly not been to any real good show since I live on a stupid island and we don't get good bands around here. When I move out, I'll make up for it.
What's the worst band you've ever seen in concert?
I never stay long enough to find out the name if they're awful.
What band do you love musically but hate the members of?
I don't really hate anyone. I may hate a persons voice, but that's about it. If I really did dislike the members of a group, I don't think I could love them musically.
What show are you looking forward to?
see third question up.
What is your favorite band shirt?
I'd say my vintage Bauhaus shirt, but it's really not all too comfortable since the material is thick and stiff. SO... my worn out, faded, holey Led Zeppelin shirt, just because it's so worn in.
What musician would you like to hang out with for a day?
Billy Mackenzie, which is impossible since he's dead.
or...
The Residents. So I could see the faces behind the eyeballs.
What musician would you like to be in love with for a day?
That's ridiculous. In love for one day? How is that even possible? I'll pass.
To be honest, I don't really pay too much attention to the musicians themselves anymore-- it's more of their output that really interests me.
Metal question - Jeans and Leather vs. Cracker Jack clothes?
No idea what cracker jack clothes are, so I can't choose.
Sabbath or solo Ozzy?
Don't really care for either.
Commodores or solo Lionel Ritchie?
Same as above.
Punk rock, hip hop or heavy metal?
Punk rock. Unless it's hardcore/thrash punk. Can't stand that.
Doesn't Primus suck?
I've only heard one song by them, so I can't judge.
Name 5 flawless albums:
The Associates -
Fourth Drawer Down (I know most people prefer Sulk, which is a fantastic album as well, but I find myself listening to Fourth Drawer Down more often)... okay, okay, so it's not flawless, but I'm biased :]
Opeth -
Damnation (Yes, they're a progressive death metal band, but this album is their most mellow. No kidding. No screaming or heavy guitars-- you could play this album to a baby, though I wouldn't recommend it)
Pink Floyd -
The Dark Side of the Moon (Yeah, I know it's on pretty much everyone's list of flawless albums, but it's perfect. You can't listen to the album without listening to it in it's entirety)
Silverchair -
Diorama (I've gone through many musical phases, but this has stuck with me for the longest. It's so beautifully orchestrated)
Sonic Youth -
Daydream Nation (The first time I listened to it, I hated it. Second time, still hated it. Third time, something hit me and I ended up playing the album on repeat for about a week)
Did you know that filling out this survey makes you a music geek?
I already knew that long ago.
What was the greatest decade for music?
The eighties. Don't judge it by VH1's "I Love The 80's" -- it's so much better than that. So much gold that most people tend to skip over.
How many music-related videos/dvds do you own?
Three.
Bauhaus Shadow of Light/Archive (DVD)
The Associates and Billy Mackenzie (DVD)
Pink Floyd's The Wall (VHS) (I don't even really like that album, so I don't know why I have it)
Do you like Journey?
No.
Don't try to pretend you don't!
Honest. No.
What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
Probably Donnie Darko or O Brother, Where Art Thou? (yes, I like the bluegrass)
What was your last musical "phase" before you wisened up?
I've gone through so many musical phases it's ridiculous...
The last awful phase I went through was in high school when I listened to a lot of crappy metal and grunge (although I do still enjoy some grunge every now and then). After that, I started to discover better music.
What's the crappiest CD/record/etc. you've ever bought?
Pretty much every CD I got when I was in middle school. Oh, and a couple of records I got from a thrift store that was awful eighties pop. I love the eighties, but this was sappy, whiny, super cheesy (in a bad way) crap. Can't even remember the names of the albums since I got rid of them.
Do you prefer vinyl or CDs?
Vinyl. Better sounding, and more aesthetically pleasing.
