Probably the best song Hammill has ever written. The lyrics have never been more powerful and his voice has never been more desperate.

The process of listening to (and scrobbling) these tracks, while thinking about whether or not I want to write a comment, made me notice something that I'm ashamed to say after 35 years of listening to SCES I've never noticed before; the metaphors in Forsaken Gardens and A Louse is not a Home are similar in some ways but antithetical in others. Both have analogies for the mind, gardens and houses respectively, but the different characters of these two locations are used to covey opposite messages. In FG the theme is openness, sharing, growth, life, while in ALINAH it's closed and nihilistic. It's only now I see this connection that it seems strange to me that FG is track 4 while ALINAH is track 7.

One of the best songs ever, both emotionally and musically absolutely epic!

I love this song, it's COMPLETELY ahine, total gothic mellodrama and the bit where it gets all slow and then gets fast again with this non-consensual asymmetric riff that keeps pumpin and squerming and Peter Hammill cries "give it a chaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhncccccccceeeeeee!!!!!!!" is totally and utterly MAWNTAL.

Amazing tempo & emotional changes. Nobody makes madness sound so beautiful as Hammill.
