Pere Ubu (de la obra surrealista de Alfred Jarry «Ubu Roi») se formó por el artista David Thomas en Cleveland en 1975.
Durante las tres décadas de su carrera, la banda mantuvo su apocalíptico sonido art-punk duro, presentado en su single de debut «30 Seconds Over Tokyo».
En 1977 el guitarrista Peter Laughner murió de sobredosis y la banda continuó como quinteto, lanzando su LP de debut «The Modern Dance» en 1978.
Le siguieron «New Picnic Time» y «The Art of Walking». Su último trabajo ha sido el teatralmente oscuro «St. Arkansas» (2002).

All of the podcasts/episodes have been great, and I especially love all the new songs. Song Of The Grocery Police is probably my favorite so far and March Of Greed is destined to be a future classic along with Slow Walking Daddy, Phone Home Jonah, Caroleen, and, well, I could go on and on. The coolest thing is, it really does seem like anything is possible with the band at this point, lots of new musical terrain being covered, splendorous new peaks and vistas being staked out in Ubuland. I can't wait to hear LLPU, which is something I'll have to do ASAP. I just hope this is a new beginning/another point in the discographical line and the precursor to even more fantastic music, as the entire LLPU project does seem like an accumulation of sorts. What am I worrying about, of course it isn't- Thomas himself has talked about this in his own writings. Long live Pere Ubu!
