Pelican es un grupo de música instrumental compuesto por cuatro miembros, originariamente de Chicago, Illinois, que posteriormente se mudaron a Los Ángeles. El grupo es conocido por sus densas combinaciones de diferentes melodías y la larga duración de sus cortes. Su sonido distintivo toma elementos del doom metal así como del post-rock y otras muchas influencias, convirtiéndoles en una propuesta ejemplar del post-metal. Están bajo contrato con Hydra Head Records, cuyo dueño y gestor principal es Aaron Turner de Isis. Larry Herweg, Trevor de Brauw y Laurent Schroeder-Lebec también son tres cuartas partes de la banda Tusk.

In other news, "What We All Come to Need" is quickly overtaking "The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw" as my favorite Pelican album. Dunno if it'll pull ahead in the end, but damn if it doesn't get better every single time I listen to it.

I have always had problems with metal, i hate the growls, i find the lyrics embarrassing and juvenile, the whole metal culture too damn silly. Pelican is perfect, Australasia is one of my favorite albums of all time, it's such an hypnotic record, i love those riffs!!! ,They don't sing silly songs about the devil or porn or depression, in general, this band is AWESOME.
