After the Jump is the joint effort of 20 New York City music bloggers, founded last year in support of under-funded city school music programs. This summer on June 21st, After the Jump will be partnering with Make Music NY to throw their second annual festival. With over 40 emerging bands performing on four free stages, ATJF will be taking over the Music Hall of Williamsburg, Galapagos Art Space and Brooklyn’s North 6th street itself, all day and night.
As recently recommended in Pitchfork's Guide to Summer Festivals, this year’s evening benefit portion at the Music Hall of Williamsburg features: Health, Titus Andronicus, XXXChange, Project Jenny, Project Jan, Mixel Pixel and Pattern is Movement. Tickets are $10 advance/$12 day of show and proceeds go to charity.
During the day, ATJF’s free stages feature: Pela, Ponytail, Bryan Scary & the Shredding Tears, Wakey!Wakey!, Chairlift, The Swimmers, papercranes, The Antlers…
6 Jun 2008, 3:03 de R_KamideesSo I come around again and what do I have for you? More of the same.
To the uninitiated: I put my library on shuffle and blog my feelings. Exciting ain't it?
Eagle*Seagull - Hello, Never
Imagine a sunset over a highway that runs parallel to a coastline. Imagine a couple silhouetted holding hands and walking away from the camera. Now imagine film credits rolling over this scene (what is a "Best Boy?"). This would be the song that plays. Emotive singing, a bouncy rhythm section. What more could you need?
Dispatch - Bats In The Belfry
I swear this is as close to Ska that I'll allow in my library. If I were to file my collection autobiographically, this would be filed under "Music that was forced upon me when I used to hang out with emo bands and I grew to like solely as an adapted survival trait of my sanity." How long does Windows allow folder names to be? Maybe I'm being a little harsh. It's not bad. "Fun-time high school music" may be a more appropriate folder name.

I'm going to do this one in two parts, first a list of all the bands that I managed to check out at this year's festival, followed by my top 15 picks for you to check out right-freaking-now!

17 May 2008, 6:55 de heathercMy plan is to write-up my May shows (of which there are many). I'll just keep revising this so if you do have any interest in what I have to say (and I don't know why you would) you may just want to wait until June to read it. At shows where I took video, I've chosen one song to embed, but typically there are more from that show on my youtube page.
Thurs, May 1, The Little Ones (w/ Ladyhawk; Neva Dinova) @ Schubas: First, when I bought my ticket Schubas listed this as Ladyhawk headlining and Neva Dinova opening so I wasn't pleased that they changed headliners on me. Though I had been hearing The Little Ones name for a year or two now and was interested in checking them out. I had downloaded and given one listen to the recent Neva Dinova album before the show and from what I recall I liked it. But I thought they were really boring in concert. I guess they've been around awhile as they had several albums for sale, but after my thoughts on their show I need to re-listen to that album to be sure whether or not I like it. …

29 Ene 2008, 18:47 de richtaylor521Since I still need to scribe some write-ups for some of the albums on my best of ‘07 list, I figured I’d post this.
Question marks (?) indicate artists that have stated they’re writing new material, but an ‘08 release is not definite; although, at an educated guess- I’d say an ‘08 release is likely.
Bold font are albums I’m looking forward to. Bold font plus red are albums I’m really looking forward to.
If there’s any mistakes please let me know. Feel free to post releases I’ve missed, also.
