Manchester, Inglaterra (1991 – 2009)

Oasis fue una banda británica de formada en Manchester, Inglaterra en 1991. Inicialmente conocido como The Rain, el grupo estuvo compuesto por el vocalista Liam Gallagher, el guitarrista Paul «Bonehead» Arthurs, el bajista Paul «Guigsy» McGuigan y el baterista Tony McCarroll, al que más tarde se uniría como compositor y guitarra principal el hermano mayor de Liam, Noel Gallagher, que dejaría la banda el 28 de agosto de 2009.

Es uno de los máximos exponentes del llamado , movimiento que emergió en Gran Bretaña como una reacción al y a la música .

El único miembro original de la formación que permaneció en la banda hasta su separación en 2009 fue Liam Gallagher como vocalista, contando, a partir de 1999, con Gem Archer (Heavy Stereo) a la guitarra rítmica y Andy Bell (Ride) al bajo.

Musicalmente sus principales influencias han sido, según ellos mismos, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones y The Who. También han nombrado, entre otros, a Stone Roses, The Stooges, The Kinks, The Smiths y Neil Young.

Gracias al éxito de su álbum de debut Definitely Maybe, con 10 millones de copias vendidas y a los 20 millones de ventas de (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, su segundo álbum, los hermanos Gallagher saltaron a la fama y se ganaron entre la prensa británica la fama de ‘chicos malos’.

En la cima de su éxito, su tercer álbum de estudio, Be Here Now (1997), llegó al número 1 de ventas en el Reino Unido y llegó a ser el álbum más rápidamente vendido de la historia, con casi medio millon de copias vendidas el día de su salida. A pesar de las impactantes cifras, Be Here Now recibió críticas menos favorables.

    @Wunderlich_Twig, yeah you've got a point, Noel generally is the fan favourite (he's mine), but Liam is quite talented. in the back of my mind, i have a feeling that they both won't do as well as they planned. chart positions is the last thing they care about, but they probably won't end up with top 5 singles every time like they did in Oasis. also, the media loves to hate Liam. i think he's lovely, just brutally honest, which i can respect. oh well, let's just see how it goes :)

Oasis is over, so he must go on without Noel, what else do you want him to do? Anyway, I think no matter how good his new music is people will slag him off just because it's kind of tradition to say that Noel can do whatever he wants without Oasis and it's great and Liam is talentless twat. Even in their stupid final brawl the majority of fans are on Noel's side, though it's obvious that he's not right.
