Nanci Caroline Griffith es una cantante, guitarrista y compositora norteamericana nacida el 6 de julio de 1953, en Seguin, Texas.
Nanci Griffith ha abordado, en su carrera, varios géneros musicales, predominantemente country, folk, y lo que ella llama “folkabilly”. Ganó un premio Grammy al mejor álbum de folk contemporáneo en 1994, por su disco “Other Voices, Other Rooms”, en el que versionó las canciones de los artistas que tuvieron en ella una mayor influencia musical. Una de sus canciones más conocidas es “From a distance”, que no fue compuesta por ella, sino por Julie Gold. Por el contrario, algunas canciones de Griffith han tenido más éxito cantadas por otros artistas que por ella misma, como “Love at the Five and Dime”, por Kathy Mattea, y “Outbound Plane”, por Suzy Boggus.
Nanci Griffith estuvo casada con el cantante y compositor Eric Taylor entre 1976 y 1982, y posteriormente se unió sentimentalmente al también cantante y compositor Tom Kimmel, aunque la pareja se separó antes de casarse. Griffith ha superado un cáncer de mama, diagnosticado en 1996 y un cáncer de tiroides, diagnosticado en 1998.
En los últimos años, Nanci Griffith ha hecho giras con otros artistas, como Buddy Holly’s Band, John Prine, Iris DeMent, Suzy Boggus y Judy Collins.
