22 Dic 2009, 2:49 de TheJanStanI must say that 2009 proved to be another... challenging year for me. If it weren't for these songs and these albums from these artists, I'm sure that I would be alot more... unstable than i am now...
"Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel" ~ Mariah Carey
Fuk the masses. They are sheep. But I am a (tentative) lamb. This album is hands down my favorite MiMi offering since... since... well... since the 90s. Rapperless since the mid-90s. & the first almost-mood album of her career (the dreadful "Obsessed" ruined that flow) proves that this woman is a true artist when she has a THEME that she's working with (see Butterfly or Glitter). Here's to more concept-driven endeavors from Ms. Carey-Cannon.
"Straight No Chaser" ~ Mr Hudson
Fuk Kanye. He didn't need to take credit for Mr Hudson's talent. …

1. The Years
2. Sabrina Malheiros
4. Me'Shell Ndegéocello
5. Little Dragon
I'm still rockin' this. And okay, so got the Vosotros situation twisted last week. vosotros is the label/production team; their collaboration project with Sam Barsh is The Years; and the album is vosotros presents: The Years (not to be confused with their similarly-named Mixtape). Got it? Good. You did get it, right?
One of my favorite genres is something I call nu brazila; bossa/samba with flecks of electronic, soul, etc. Sabrina Malheiros handles the job beautifully on the re-issued New Morning (I have the Deluxe version). Her soothing vocals elevate the jazz for a romantic combination. Fans of Bebel Gilberto or Céu should embrace this easily.
N'Dambi has been on the low for awhile. But she's back with a new album, Pink Elephant. I'm not in love with the entire album. But about half of it get me to rewind including, L.I.E. …
24 Oct 2008, 9:42 de ifs_ands_buts2008 really seems to be the year of good releases for me, whether if it's the discovery of old gems or new tracks. This mix is intended to kind of cover the wide range of Deep House with a mix of old and new stuff, ranging from STL, Move D, Bernard Badie and Mr. Fingers to Main Street Records' Round One. 1773 is a hip-hop duo from Chicao made up of two MCs, Wisdom O.N.E. and Just J. Although I didn't even know about them until a few hours ago, by chance I heard one of their tracks, which brilliantly replays Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence by Ryuichi Sakamoto, at a store and then decided to buy the album Constant Motion.
Substantial is a hip-hop MC from Baltimore. I've ever heard only a few tracks from him, but recently become friends with Mr. Eddie Tombs IV, the photographer for this album Sacrifice, on MySpace, and got more interested with it.
Honestly, I didn't really feel Donnie's sophomore album The Daily News when I first previewed it last year, because I thought that it was a bit too gloomy, too staid and too throwback. But after listening to his debut The Colored Section…

30 Oct 2007, 16:43 de NeolOsoul2007 foi mais um ano de muitas boas contribuições para o Soul (ou Neo-Soul, como alguns preferem). Alguns surpreenderam positivamente, outros decepcionaram. Segue a lista de lançamentos abaixo.
Amel Larrieux - Lovely Standards - Som secundário: Jazz
A menina da voz cristalina resolveu fazer uma restrospectiva aos melhores vocal jazz do século XX. Disco recheado de romantismo, piano e o tom alto da nossa querida Amel.
Angie Stone - The Art of Love & War - Som secundário: Contemporary R&B
Anthony Hamilton (Southern Comfort) - Som secundário: Contemporary R&B / Funk
O novo álbum do Anthony Hamilton está mais para o R&B contemporâneo purístico do que para Soul. …
