A Review of every Metallica album I own [currently updating]

Metallica, being one of my favorite bands, seemed like one of the best bands to do a review on. I only have seven of their albums (Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, Metallica, Reload, Death Magnetic) so don't complain if I skip over some albums like St. Anger, because I don't have them therefore I can't review them (duh). Since I got that all explained lets get to the friggin reviews!

Metallica's debut album, which would have been titled "Metal Up Your Ass" until the record company said they couldn't use it, is the typical raw-sounding first album. Although the lyrics are a bit simple and the songwriting is mediocre, the album's energy is really what makes it a good, listenable album. You can hear the attitude in just about every song, and even when you don't the hear attitude, you feel it. …

Alive'09

Já se passou mais um Alive, o festival que para mim, desde do seu inicio em 2007 tem provado ser um dos melhores festivais de verão portugueses.

Este ano, por questões profissionais apenas podia ir a um dia do festival, e a minha escolha acabou por cair, sem muita dificuldade no dia 9. Gostando de metal em geral, nunca fui muito fã de Slipknot ou de Motorhead.

Mas 2 das bandas do cartaz era excelentes concertos assegurados, nomeadamente Lamb of God no seu primeiro concerto em Portugal, e claro o regresso tão aguardado dos Metallica a Portugal com o seu novo álbum Death Magnetic.

O concerto de Lamb of God foi espectacular como já se esperava. Metal puro e duro para quem tem a pedalada e o bom gosto para aguentar.
Como bonus a editora dos Lamb of God em Portugal, permitiu aos fãs que adquirissem o novo álbum Wrath no festival (por uns meros 7€) estivesse presente no Meet and Great com a banda e tivesse a oportunidade de ficar com o CD autografado.

Quinta 9 Jul – Optimus Alive! 09

O primeiro dia do festival Optimus Alive '09! prometia uma grande noite, sobretudo pelas bandas do palco principal, as quais levaram cerca de 40 mil pessoas ao Passeio Marítimo de Algés no dia 9 de Julho. Metallica, Slipknot, Machine Head, Lamb of God, Mastodon e Ramp foram as bandas que levaram essas 40 mil pessoas a pagarem 50 euros pelo bilhete, e que certamente não se arrependeram do dinheiro que gastaram. Um cartaz de luxo, marcado pela estreia dos Lamb of God em terras nacionais, pelo esperado regresso dos Slipknot a Portugal, 5 anos após a última vinda e ainda pelos grandiosos Metallica que encabeçaram o excelente cartaz.

Á chegada ao recinto deparo-me com uma maré negra, como seria de esperar. No pórtico de entrada, uma banda, da qual desconheço o nome, toca covers, de modo a animar os presentes e ajudá-los a passar o tempo que tinham de esperar até as portas do recinto serem abertas. …

Foi marcado para dia 9 de Julho um dos melhores cartazes de metal mainstream que alguma vez se viu em terras lusitanas e dezenas de milhares de pessoas não deixaram de marcar presença. Para além desta maré negra de pessoas, também se viu quem fosse ver outros grandes destaques no palco secundário como TV on the Radio, Klaxons e os surpreendentes Crystal Castles, que lamento não ter visto. As minhas atenções estavam focadas apenas no palco principal e foi por lá que me mantive ao longo das 6 actuações.

O dia adivinhava-se louco, enquanto se caminhava em direcção ao recinto. Achei os acessos um pouco complicados, mas pouco liguei naquele calor todo para conseguir uma entrada rápida. Após cerca de 25 minutos, lá fui entrando. Achei a segurança pouco rigorosa comparada à de outros festivas que tive oportunidade de ir. Nota positiva para a banda de covers que actuava no cimo da entrada…

В 96-м году я был в Ящерове летом из Англии приебамши, и мне мама привезла с Москвы два диска Metallica (я ими заинтересовался, когда увидел по MTV клип Until It Sleeps). У нас на деревне ещё пацан их один любил - московский, между прочим, - и я подумал, что было бы заебись их послушать. Так вот, приволокла она чёрный альбом и Garage Days Re-Revisited - сборник моих любимых песен Метлы... хоть это и не песни Метлы... гм...

Первым я из-за дизайна обложки (всё чёрное, змея, ЗЛОБЛЯТЬ) врубил именно чёрный альбом. И что я слышу? Это же нереально тяжело! Пусть сначала этот акустический проигрыш, из-за которого я в итоге заставил родителей купить гитару! Но после него же брутальщина! Большинство вас, малолетних пидорасов, когда слушали впервые чёрный альбом, тоже, небось, подристывали по поводу того, насколько он тяжёл... А Sad But True? А потом, через Holier Than Thou, через вмиг и навсегда запоминающееся интро Unforgiven, к гонгу, знаменующему начало Wherever I May Roam...
