Mesh es una grupo de Bristol, Inglaterra cuya música podría ser descrita como synth pop. Más temprano tendrían un toque industrial.
Mesh fue formado en 1992 por Mark Hockings (voz, guitarras, teclados, programación , letras) y Richard Silverthorn (teclados, programación) después de que los dos se conocieran en una falúa donde la banda de Silverthorn tocaba. Fueron descubiertos por Neil Taylor (teclados, programando), un antiguo compañero de la banda de Silverthorn, y siguiendo en esta línea hasta el septiembre de 2006.
Los primeros trabajos de Mesh se pueden escuchar en su «Original 91-93», un álbum donde se mezclan bocetos de canciones con temas consolidados entre sus presentaciones como una promisoria banda synthpop.
Tanto «Fragile» como «Fragmente» consolidan a la banda como una alternativa dentro del movimiento electrónico británico. Canciones como «Fragile», «Someone to believe in», «Trust you» y «People like me» le imprimen un sello característico a la banda, y empiezan a consolidar el sonido Mesh como característico dentro del ambiente electro mundial.
Los álbumes «The point at which it falls apart» y «Who watches over me» convierten a Mesh en una de las bandas más reconocidas del medio. Cortes como la nostálgica «Not prepared», «It scares me» o aquellas canciones más bailables como «The damage you do» o «Self healing lie» dan ese toque distintivo en aquel álbum, en tanto que en Who watches over me se destacan infinidad de temas, desde el corte «Friends like these», pasando por la sumamente electrónica y potente «Firefly» o aquellos momentos lentos como «Little Missile» o «I can’t imagine how it hurts».

DM is approved by the masses as 'synthpop gods' and every synthpop band that get fame nowdays will be compared with DM (like every industrial rock band will be compared with NIN). That's normal. Yes, they have a little bit in a common. Just synthpop genre and that's all.

I'd suggest that (a) these students are among very few to surpass their teachers, and (b) it doesn't speak any less of them to acknowledge their debt. If nothing else, converting even 1% of DM fans to the cause of Meshy goodness would let Mark and Rich fill the clubs to the four walls well outside of Europe. Music-biz cynicism aside, I have to believe that it's more than doable.

I must admit I'm not too thrilled by the new album yet. The music is a little too loud an too dense, maybe that's the effect DaimonX mentioned. The lyrics are rather short and the choruses are repeated too often, so some tracks seem a bit stretched. I miss haunting songs like "To be alive" or "No place like home" although "Who says?" could fit into this category. Maybe it gets better by time.

I read about the mastering below and I disagree because the album sounds a bit overcompressed to a musician's ear. I know it is hard not to maximize it to the last bit ... .... but many pro's demand a return to a dynamic range of 14. Read about here: www.dynamicrange.de Thee major problem it may sound well on cd, but worse on mp3 & co.

I love mesh since 1997/98 and supported them a lot via my past online magazine scope-x. I really think that their popularity is poorer against DM because they hit the ears only one decade later as DM and at that time Grunge was everywhere and hard to overwhelm. Today they are miles better than DM. "Who says" is an awesome song.
