1979:Highway To Hell de AC DC.
1982:The Number of the Beast de Iron Maiden.
1983:Metal Health de Quiet Riot, pero ese año hubieron muchos buenos albums: Bark at the Moon de Ozzy Osbourne, Kill 'em All de Metallica, Show No Mercy de Slayer, Pyromania de Def Leppard, Shout at the Devil de Motley Crue y muchos otros.
    1984:Stay Hungry de Twisted Sister.
1985:Theater of Pain de Motley Crue. Y pongo este por lo que significo contener la primera power ballad que se toco en MTV.
1986:Reign in Blood de Slayer catalogado como el album más heavy de todos los tiempos. Además del más grande trabajo de Metallica Master of Puppets. Y tal vez Slippery When Wet de Bon Jovi.
1987:Appetite For Destruction de Guns and Roses. Aunque Hysteria de Def Leppard fué una obra maestra, así que no se cual.
1988:Empate entre Kings of Metal de Manowar y New Jersey de Bon Jovi.
    1989:Dr. Feelgoodde Motley Crue.
    1990:Rust in Peace de Megadeth.
    1991:Metallica de Metallica.
    1992:Countdown To Extinction de Megadeth

Y por ahora hasta ahí lo dejo.

  • Rage (against not buying Rage Against The Machine)

    17 Dic 2009, 23:57 de Twiggy_Manson

Why you (people of Britain) should buy Rage Against the Machine's EscucharKilling in the Name.
    (part I of IV)

I've heard a lot of bullshit about this, so it's time for a rant.

Lesser of two evils you fools! I already owned that song twice over thanks to the album itself and the GTA:SA soundtrack and I still bought it again. The fact that it's not their best song or even if it's not a good song is irrelevant.
I would honestly rather have "The Crack-head Children's Choir sings the best of Barbra Streisand" as number one than Joe Mcdilberry's take on a "Miley Cyrus Classic"* (Oxymoron alert).

That shit is wrong on so many levels. While the "Part I of IV" subtitle at the top was technically my facetiousness getting the better of me, I could probably do four parts to this journal without running out of things to say.

I fucking hate Billy Ray Cyrus man. His songs suck. His shitty album stopped a good album like Countdown To Extinction by Megadeth getting to number 1. His name makes him sound like the inbred love-child of two members of the Tennessee State Sodomy Club. He fucking looks like the inbred love-child of two members of the Tennessee State Sodomy Club as well. I'll give it to Cyrus that the dance he did at the end of EscucharAchy Breaky Heart wasn't the most terrible thing in the entire world. This is semi-irrelevant, but the point is nothing good could possibly come from ol' Billy Ray.

So his daughter Miley Cyrus. You can tell she is his daughter because she has that little bit of an inbred overbite that her dad has.** Now if you remember the quotation I put earlier, some poor fool reckoned that Miley Cyrus not only produced a good song, but that it was in fact good enough to earn the term "classic". Excuse me for a minute, I need to take a very deep breath.

    FUCKING MORON!

That's all that needs to be said there.

And now the X-Factor Finalists 2009 and "Mr"*** Joe McElderry. Yeah, so I noticed Michael Jackson died earlier this year. Apparently so did X-Factor and thought "Hey, what's popular enough for us to do for a charity song". By "do" in that previous sentence I mean "ruin". I would rather (and did) give £10 to said charity than pay £4 for that shit. Hell, I would rather pay £40 to charity just to avoid hearing it. Well while we're at it, I'd pay the charity all the spare money I have for a year if they ran over Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole in a steam roller.

...Well it is for a good cause.

Speaking of Cheryl Cole, I've heard Girls Aloud via radio, via looking up music videos to wank off to, via television etc. etc. At least two of the girls can sing in that group. Cheryl Cole is NOT one of them. She can't sing for shit. Back up singer material for sure. Furthermore, she was pretty hot when they did EscucharThe Show's music video, but I dunno what happened, she doesn't look quite as nice anymore.

Right, so Joe McElderry. Terrible, awful, terrible, shit cover of EscucharDon't Stop Believin' by Journey. When I heard someone on X Factor did a cover I stopped believing in many things... The innate goodness of mankind, a good and/or holy God and McElderry's ability to maintain an erection.

Now I can't maintain an erection either, I caught my wife sleeping with another man and I feel like a woman trapped in a man's body... I CAN'T GET OUT!

For the record, EscucharThe Climb was shit before he covered it. He failed to give it new life. It is still shit.

Not just any shit either. Eoghan Quigg's dysentery shit.****

Last but far, far, far from least, Rage Against the Machine. They're not my favourite band. They're not my second favourite band. They're not even on my top eight, ten, twenty or fifty. I have their first two albums Rage Against the Machine and Evil Empire. I also have the song in question EscucharKilling in the Name on the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto. So I have it twice already.

    I still bought it online.

Let me show you some things I know:
    1) Rage Against The Machine have several better songs
    2) Rage Against The Machine are on the Sony Label,***** the same label Simon Cowell is tied to.
    3) Rage Against The Machine talk about anarchy and not doing what people tell you and yet in bringing them to number 1 and buying the song you are in fact conforming and doing what people are telling you.
    4) Rage Against The Machine promised not to swear on Radio Five and then swore anyway.******
    5) Tom Morello is a bit of a boner.

All of those things (except arguably 5) are 100% true.
Does that mean you shouldn't buy it?
NO IT FUCKING DOESN'T YOU STUPID FUCKING MORON!
WERE YOU NOT FUCKING READING WHAT I SAID ABOVE!?

It's pretty fucking clear what is the much, much, much, much lesser of two evils here.
Do the right fucking thing and buy Killing In The Name, it'll cost you next to nothing, it WILL annoy Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and McDilberry and it would be 900%******* less shit. Don't be a Tool.

    Thank you and good night.

    *Actual Quote
**I know this because I too, am inbred.
***Not sure if you're supposed to put this in front of a person who appears to be a man, but doesn't seem to have a penis. Dictionary wasn't entirely clear.
****Click the word dysentery for further details of this reference.
*****I bet the guys who started this campaign up were working for Sony, you know. Conspiracy to make as much money as physically possible.
******Presumably causing six elderly ladies to suffer heart attacks and/or severe strokes from the shock of hearing the word "fuck" so early in the morning.

  • 5 Sucky Things to Happen in Metal, in 2009

    17 Dic 2009, 23:00 de c0untchocula52

Apologies if I missed something that is obvious to you. Here are the things that stood out to me:

    - Blabbermouth.net turns into Megadeth's Dave Mustaine's personal gossip site

If you like metal chances are you read Blabbermouth daily, regardless of how cringe-worthy and nauseating the comments sections can and always do get. The September release of Endgame was marred by what Mustaine claims was a lack of promotion for the album. I'm not sure Mustaine understands that his band just can't sell platinum albums anymore (no matter how good they are, and Endgame is good), even with all the publicity in the world. This in some people's minds led to a "character assassination" of Mustaine by the Roadrunner owned site. With such glorious articles like him calling himself a legend, calling his album better than Metallica's Death Magnetic, talking about how he put a hex on someone (really?), continually comparing Broderick to Marty Friedman, or the one that nearly made me facepalm myself to death "I am part Metallica." Day after day it becomes clearer why Mustaine is probably the most polarizing man in metal.

-Stop calling yourself a legend, even if it is true, you never heard legends calling themselves legends.

-Stop mentioning Metallica if you ever want the bullshit to end. It's no wonder you always get baited into mentioning them by interviewers.

-Broderick will never compare to Friedman, no matter how many times you say it, it will never be true.

I dare one of you brave souls to do a BB search for "Mustaine" and read every article this year that comes up. You may contemplate suicide by the end.

It would take me forever to link to all articles so here's just two.

Broderick is everything Marty wanted to be and more

    I Am Part Metallica

    - Varg Vikernes gets released from prison after 16 years

Count Grishnackh, everyone's favorite murderer, arsonist, and racist is finally free. At least the world gets a new Burzum album. Wait, when was the last time Varg played guitar? When was the last good Burzum album? I doubt any good will come of Varg being a free man. Hopefully no harm is done and the days of him being a terrible human have faded away much like the color in his hair has started to.

-Metallica wins Grammy for Best Metal Performance

    Nominees:
Metallica "My Apocalypse" (track from Death Magnetic)
DragonForce "Heroes of Our Time" (track from Ultra Beatdown)
Judas Priest "Nostradamus" (track from Nostradamus)
Ministry "Under My Thumb" (track from Cover Up)
Slipknot "Psychosocial" (track from All Hope Is Gone)

The problem I have with this is not that any of the other nominees were better suited to win (they weren't), but with the nominees themselves. What group of people thought any of those songs were among the best of 2008? These choices are the equivalent of Transformers 2 and New Moon being Academy Award nominees for best picture in 2009. Not to mention that the Ministry song nominated is a Rolling Stones cover. Cover songs should not be nominated for Grammys, and it boggles my mind that cover songs get nominated every few years. The Grammys are a joke and every metal fan knows this.

    - Evile's Mike Alexander dies at age 32

Granted I'm not really much of an Evile fan, but it's still tragic when someone as young as Mike Alexander dies, just as Evile are really starting to establish themselves. Considering the similarities between Evile and Metallica, it is very hard not to draw the parallel of Cliff Burton's death back in 1986. Alexander's passing also reminds me of Vitek's death two years back and how that nearly ended Decapitated. I respect Evile for their talent as well as their decision to continue playing, but it sucks regardless when a band member, and a friend passes. I've only ever read positive things about the guy, and it's just a damn shame what happened.

    - Ronnie James Dio gets stomach cancer

When I read that Dio was diagnosed with stomach cancer last month I damn near had a fear shit. Luckily they caught it in the early stages and he should probably come out of this fine with only his hair as a casualty. The man is 67 years old and Heaven & Hell is scheduled to play at Sonisphere next year despite stomach cancer and just general ancientness. I'm sure Dio will end up fine but this ends up on the suck list for trying to make me imagine a world post-Dio (I still can't).

  • 2009 - Top 25 Albums

    17 Dic 2009, 22:12 de groverXIII

Holy crap, so many great albums were released this year that it was difficult for me to narrow this album down to just 25 picks. Before I start naming my top albums, here's just a list of honorable mentions, all of which probably could have found their way onto my list:

3 Inches Of Blood - Here Waits Thy Doom
Alestorm - Black Sails At Midnight
Arsonists Get All The Girls - Portals
    Augury - Fragmentary Evidence
Austrian Death Machine - Double Brutal
    Be'lakor - Stone's Reach
Billy Talent - Billy Talent III
Buckethead - Slaughterhouse On The Prairie
    Candlemass - Death Magic Doom
    Cormorant - Metazoa
    Dååth - The Concealers
    Dalriada - Arany-Album
    Deströyer 666 - Defiance
    Dethklok - Dethalbum II
Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings
Eluveitie - Evocation I - The Arcane Dominion
    Evile - Infected Nations
    Exivious - Exivious
    Fleshgod Apocalypse - Oracles
Fu Manchu - Signs Of Infinite Power
    God Forbid - Earthsblood
Heaven & Hell - The Devil You Know
House Of Broken Promises - Using The Useless
    Insomnium - Across The Dark
    Kalisia - Cybion
    Killswitch Engage - Killswitch Engage
Kong - What It Seems Is What You Get
    Lamb Of God - Wrath
    Mantic Ritual - Executioner
    NOFX - Coaster
    OSI - Blood
    Revocation - Existence Is Futile
Scale The Summit - Carving Desert Canyons
Scar Symmetry - Dark Matter Dimensions
    Skeletonwitch - Breathing The Fire
Skyclad - In The... All Together
    Slayer - World Painted Blood
Street Sweeper Social Club - Street Sweeper Social Club
    Suidakra - Crógacht
The Company Band - The Company Band
Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures
    Warbringer - Waking Into Nightmares
White Wizzard - High Speed GTO
    Wino - Punctuated Equilibrium
    Wolfmother - Cosmic Egg

See what I mean? Anyway, without further ado, the list.

    25) Mastodon - Crack The Skye: So many people have this album at the top of their lists. I personally liked the album a great deal, but didn't feel that it was up to the quality of their previous work.

    24) Katatonia - Night Is The New Day: I'm a bit new to Katatonia, but I really found myself enjoying this album early on. I heard some similarities to Opeth that really helped draw me in.

    23) HORSE the band - Desperate Living: HtB can always be relied on for some serious weirdness with their music, and this was no different. I felt it improved upon A Natural Death, although it's not quite as great as The Mechanical Hand was.

    22) Obscura - Cosmogenesis: This was the album that really drew into technical death metal, and was one of my favorites of the year. The fretless bass work is fantastic.

    21) Rammstein - Liebe Ist Für Alle Da: It had been too long since the last album Rammstein had released an album, and considering the direction the band had taken with their last few albums, I was worried at how this one would come out. As it turned out, I had nothing to worry about. Their best work since Mutter.

    20) Koffin Kats - Forever For Hire: As far as I'm concerned, Koffin Kats are the best psychobilly band out there, and they continued to reinforce that opinion with this release.

    19) Celldweller - Wish Upon A Blackstar Chapter 01 & 02: The man known as Klayton began releasing his latest album two tracks at a time this year. These first two chapters are excellent and really left me wanting more.

    18) Les Claypool - Of Fungi And Foe: Ah, Les Claypool. The mad genius from Primus continues to get weirder with age, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

    17) Between the Buried and Me - The Great Misdirect: For a long time I believed BTBAM to be a screamo band based solely on their name; as it turned out, I was completely wrong. And I have never been happier to be proven wrong.

    16) KMFDM - Blitz: KMFDM are a bit like the AC/DC of industrial rock... you always know what you're getting with their music, and yet, it's still pretty damn great.

    15) TrollfesT - Villanden: In addition to possessing the most patently ridiculous album art, Villanden is a deliriously entertaining blast of bizarre folk metal. Enjoyable from start to finish.

    14) Thy Catafalque - Róka Hasa Rádió: I was really surprised at how much this album grew on me, considering my usual opinions on black metal. Then again, Thy Catafalque is not your typical black metal. The highlight for me is the 19 minute, 11 second Molekuláris gépezetek, which digresses into a hypnotic drumbeat with a smattering of saxophone and piano before its final metallic crescendo.

    13) Devin Townsend Project - Ki & Addicted: Both of these albums could easily occupy spots on this list, but for the sake of simplicity I'm combining them. Ki's mellow, propulsive guitars are an amazing complement to the bombastic pop-metal riffs of Addicted.

    12) Rodrigo y Gabriela - 11:11: 2009 was the year I learned that acoustic guitars can shred just as hard as electric when played right. This album blew my mind.

    11) Megadeth - Endgame: Dave Mustaine may be a dick, but he showed this year that he still remembers Megadeth's thrash roots, and subsequently released his best work since Rust In Peace. Endgame is as great a return to form as Death Magnetic was for Metallica.

    10) Supercommuter - Supercommuter: Alright, I like a bit of nerdcore hip-hop now and then, and Optimus Rhyme was probably the cream of the crop until their unfortunate decision to part ways. Take vocalist Wheelie Cyberman, replace the funk rock beats with 8-bit bleeps, and you have a recipe for success.

    9) Animals as Leaders - Animals As Leaders: Tosin Abasi managed to make an instrumental metal album that doesn't really sound like anything I've ever heard, brilliantly showing just what a guitarist is capable.

    8) Metroid Metal - Varia Suite: Seeing as Powerglove didn't get an album out this year, I had to find my fix of video game metal elsewhere. Fortunately, Metroid Metal was more than up to the task, transforming the music of the Metroid games into some sublimely brilliant instrumental metal.

    7) Amorphis - Skyforger: Amorphis' last three albums now have been consistently brilliant, with fantastic vocals, evocative lyrics, and beautifully heavy music. Truly an incredible album.

    6) Baroness - Blue Record: As great as Baroness' previous work was, I felt that there was a certain unevenness that kept me from really enjoying them. Blue Record took care of that.

    5) Diablo Swing Orchestra - Sing Along Songs For The Damned And Delirious: It's not often that you find an artist that truly does something original in music, but DSO do just that by mashing metal, jazz, swing, opera, and electronic into one amazing package. This album is unlike anything you have ever heard, and it's an incredible ride from start to finish.

    4) Priestess - Prior To The Fire: Priestess got some much-deserved recognition when their song 'Lay Down' was included on Guitar Hero, but their last album, while solid, was not great. Prior To The Fire completely and totally blows away anything they've done and elevates stoner rock to a new level.

    3) Ensiferum - From Afar: Ensiferum have long been recognized as one of the premier bands in folk metal, with a flair for epic songs, and they continue to separate themselves from the pack on From Afar. Not only do they have the two 10+ minute epic 'Heathen Stone' tracks, but they actually incorporate some Ennio Morricone-style western sounds and a shredding banjo solo on 'Stone Cold Metal' and make it work. Phenomenal.

    2) Clutch - Strange Cousins From The West: I was almost certain that this album would be number one on my list this year, simply because it's Clutch. They consistently manage to release incredible blues/stoner rock and yet seem fresh, and like a fine wine they only get better with age.

    1) Gorod - Process Of A New Decline: This album came out of nowhere and completely ripped my face off. Obscura may have really gotten me a taste of tech-death, but Gorod made me realize just what could be done within the genre. In spite of the dizzying tempo changes, ridiculous guitar leads, and light-speed drumming, I discovered that the riffs were memorable and that there were moments where the band actually slowed things down just a bit and settled into a groove. I never thought that technical death metal could be described as catchy... and yet, Gorod manages to achieve just that. Unbelievable.
