Manic Street Preachers es un grupo de rock procedente de Gales, Reino formado por James Dean Bradfield (voz y guitarra), Sean Moore (batería) y Nicky Wire (bajo).
La banda se formó en 1986, tomando influencia de bandas como Badfinger y Joy Division, y sumándole guitarras agresivas, como un cruce a mitad camino del indie y el punk más tradicional; sus tres primeros discos se caracterizaron por letras poéticas y reivindicativas, hasta la misteriosa desaparición de Richey James en 1995. Los Manics continuaron como trío. El grupo tiene en su haber canciones como «A design for life», «If you tolerate this your children will be next», «Motorcycle emptiness», «The everlasting » auténticos himnos de la década de los noventa.
Manic Street Preachers siempre se identificó con ideas marxistas e izquierdistas, tomando siempre causas que comúnmente no eran escuchadas, como la canción «Baby Elián» que narra la historia del pequeño Elián González que nuevamente trajo a colación la histórica rivalidad entre Estados Unidos y Cuba .
Fue también la primera banda de un país «capitalista» en tocar en vivo en La Habana ante el mismo Fidel Castro en el teatro Karl Marx, luego en 2005 el turno sería de Audioslave
Su vocalista James Dean Bradfield editó en 2006 su primer disco solista titulado «The Great Western» con gran éxito de aceptación entre los fans de la banda galesa, el primer single fue «Still a long way to go» mientras se espera el regreso de la banda aún sin fecha, se puede disfrutar de la música y el talento del músico británico.

Richey was a nihilist pretty much, though he obviously had a very deep interest in religion, as seen by a lot of the lyrics and images of The Holy Bible and Journal for Plague Lovers.

Richey was raised in a religious family but rebelled against that as he left childhood. I don't think he ever explicitly stated what he exactly believed in, maybe he didn't know the answer himself. Not sure about Sean or Nicky although there might be a Nicky interview where he answers it, IDK though. I'm also pretty sure there was an interview where James stated he was not spiritual in any way.
