Banda Inglesa de Post Punk formada en Manchester, cuya actividad se prolongó entre 1976 y 1981. Estuvo compuesta por Howard Devoto (Buzzcocks) y John Mc Geoch (Siouxsie And The Banshees, PIL, The Armory Show), Barry Adamson, Bob Dickinson y Martin Jackson como formación inicial.
Su primer sencillo fue «Shot By Both Sides» estuvo entre los 50 del pop chart de UK en 1977 luego vino su primer álbum «Real Life» de 1978, en el cual fue seguido por «Secondhand Daylight» (1979), «The Correct Use Of Soap» (1980) su obra maestra, Play (1980, vivo), y «Magic, Murder and The Weather» (1981).
Este grupo combinaba influencias de avant-garde y pop, y forma parte de un movimiento de bandas similares surgidas desde la explosión punk de Sex Pistols y durante los tardíos setentas y los primeros ochentas, como Joy Division, A Certain Ratio, Gang Of Four, The Fall, Adam And The Ants, Wire y The Cure, por mencionar algunas.
La tenderncia post-punk según algunos entendidos, junto con el Mod Revival (The Jam), el New Romantic (Spandau Ballet), el Ska-2-Tone (Madness), y el Synth Pop (DM), forman parte de lo que pasaría a llamarse New Wave.

I prefer Secondhand Daylight to Real Life as well, mostly because as an album, the former is more cohesive. The first album got me into the band though - Motorcade alone did it for me.

Secondhand Daylight. I would still recommend Real Life to begin with though, in fact I would recommend listening to them chronologically. And forget the bullshit about their last album, it's also a gem, one of the greatest bands to exist don't make shit albums, mcgeoch or no.

have been into the mags since shot by both sides was on TOTP. I just wanted to say that i don't see any similarity to bands like the fall or Pil or joy div. More of a new wave floyd really (in a good way - honest!) Best lp is secondhand daylight but best track is motorcade off real life. The 4th lp magic murder and the weather is unfairly forgotton - good lp too.
