M83 es un grupo de musica electronica formado en la actualidad por Anthony Gonzalez. Gonzalez fundó su banda junto a Nicolas Fromageau en Antibes, Francia en el 2001. Su estilo musical recuerda al genero shoegazer con un gran uso de efectos de reverberación y partes habladas. Aun asi, los temas de M83 incluyen un número considerablemente menor de guitarras de lo que lo hacen la mayoria de bandas de shoegaze como My Bloody Valentine. M83 en cambio emplea mucho más los sintetizadores y otros instrumentos electronicos para crear sus temas.
Su primer y homónimo álbum M83 (02) fué muy bien recibido por la comunidad electrónica pero no fué hasta su segundo Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts al año siguiente cuando obtuvieron el reconocimiento mundial. En su tercer album, Before The Dawn Heals Us, Gonzalez decidió separarse de Fromegeau (despues de una gira muy intensa emocionalmente) y grabar en solitario.
El álbum Saturdays = Youth (Mute, 2008) contó con la colaboración de Ken Thomas y Ewan Pearson y fue precedido por el single
Graveyard Girl.
El tema de M83 Unrecorded, extraido de Dead cities, red seas & lost ghosts se utilizó en el trailer americano de los guardianes de la noche (night watch) y el tema Teen angst tomado de Before the dawn heals us, aparece en la adaptacion cinematografica de la novela A Scanner darkly de Philip K. Dick .
M83 produjo tambien el remix de la canción Pioneers del disco Silent Alarm Remixed de la banda británica Bloc Party.
Deftones utilizaron la canción Be wild (extraida de Dead cities, red seas & lost ghosts) en su gira mundial del 2007 como introducción a cada uno de sus conciertos.

Why doesn't anyone talk about the self titled album? That album is amazing and they are STILL playing songs from it and it was made 8 years ago. Enough with how much you hate Saturdays=Youth just because it's a little more mainstream then your hipster indie needs... I agree that Dead Cities and Dawn are so much better, but either way you look at it... Anthony Gonzalez is a musical genius.
