Sylvia was workin' as a waitress in Beaumont
She said, "I'm movin' away, I'm gonna get what I want
I'm tired of these small town boys that don't move fast enough
I'm gonna find me one who wears a leather jacket

seriously, what about sylvia? last time we've seen her she was holding a corona against her hand. i always wonder if she's ok. the song stops and she's dancing the night away, possibly on her own. i like the bit "and it's cold against her hand", a matter-of-fact detail capable of sending sylvia back to her existence (the question is: is she bothered by it?). she reminds me of vicky, a lovable and oblivious character in "millennium mambo", a superb taiwanese movie. you know, i think this song is kinda heartbreaking because while sylvia finds the bar (her "brand new life" for that matter) a place of escape, lucinda finds it a place of introspection.
