Lemar Obika se dió a conocer a los 24 años en Fame Academy, un reality de la BBC en el 2002 . No ganó, pero este programa le sirvió de trampolín para empezar su carrera. Lemar firmó un contrato con BMG, con quien lanzó un disco. Después firmó un contrato para cinco discos con Sony, y en agosto del 2003, con “Dance (with U)”, el cantante alcanzó el número 2 en las listas.
