The new album is one of her best, in a career full of highlights! 2003's Troubled by the Fire is my favourite album of the just-wrapping-up decade.....July Flame starts off the next decade of music in the finest way possible!! There is no doubt in my mind, that come 2019, it will be up there with my fav albums of the decade once again:) From the sweet, optimistic, sparseness of "Life Is Good Blues", to the sparkling upbeat "Summer Is The Champion" that is surely influenced by "Belle and Sebastian", to the lyrical simplicity, but powerfulness of the title track "July Flame", to my personal favourite and career high point to date- "Sun Is King", Veirs' 7th LP , despite my deep passion and personal soft spot for ":Troubled by the Fire", "July Flame" is her most diverse, eclectic, moving artistic statement to date, in a career full of highlights! The album's greatest strength is its ability to draw upon her historically displayed strongpoints, and put them together in a fulfilling way!

I saw her open for Tegan and Sara three weeks ago. I hadn't heard any of her stuff before so I got Year of Meteors, which I really enjoy. I wasn't too keen of her live performance the first night, however I really enjoyed it the second night. It was more like an acoustic set.

I wouldn't call it horrible. She reminds me of Dylan, I guess. He was never that technically proficient either, I guess, but there's definitely something about his voice that makes it more 'listenable' than just any random person, IMO.

Her voice is horrible, nothing special at all - like listening to a friend with no real talent singing, but I LOVE the music anyway. I'm not sure why, but I really do. One of my favorite bands hands down.
