18 Ene 2015, 10:59 de Hollow0neAlong with my countdown of top 365 songs, I'll be running a band/artist of the week countdown as well. This list is also based on my Last.fm charts: it's my top 52 artists (as of January 3rd 2015).
51. Kingston Wall (with 464 plays)
Kingston Wall is one of the greatest (progressive) rock bands of Finland. Highly praised for their inspiring and soulful music, but probably best known for their tragic ending, when singer/guitarist and "spiritual leader" of the band Petri Walli committed suicide.
This power-trio of Walli, bassist Jukka Jylli and drummer Sami Kuoppamäki was original and talented. Kingston Wall has been and still is a great influence in Finnish rock, but only few have even a slightest bit of the greatness and awesomeness that Kingston Wall had in their music. Right now only one band comes to mind, which is Von Hertzen Brothers. They even had Kuoppamäki behind the drums on their second album, which is the most influenced by Kingston Wall of all their albums. …

On with the show and the next decade of my life. What happened in 1994? Green Day released Dookie. Kurt Cobain shot himself. Justin Bieber was born. Oh my...
Corrosion of Conformity - Deliverance
I believe I was introduced to COC in the early 2000's when the stoner rock boom was still going strong. I remember Deliverance getting played a lot back then and although a lot of music I listened to in those days has somewhat fallen out of favor, Deliverance is still probably my favorite COC album. Though not necessarily prototypical stoner rock, Deliverance's hard edged southern rock fit perfectly on the same playlists as Kyuss, Monster Magnet and the like. I suppose these days the term "stoner rock" could be used more to describe a movement than a genre of music as a lot of bands were simply lumped under that term during that particular time period. …
29 Dic 2012, 15:54 de nassuttaja2I tried my best to add some commentary this year. It's not much, but at least there's something about every release. Writing an in-depth analysis on 95, or even 30, releases is not my idea of a good time.
Some of the releases can be downloaded legally for free from Bandcamp. I will not check which ones specifically, but thedowngoing, Usko and Dark Cloak should be there. Some others, like False Light, Syntax and Water Torture, can be downloaded for free from Grindcore Karaoke. I just revealed 1/3 of my EP list... oh well.
Honorable mentions: A Place to Bury Strangers, Alcest, Alkerdeel, Arkhamin Kirjasto, Baroness, Bastard Deceiver, Bosse-de-Nage, Cattle Decapitation, Coffins, Deftones, Desecresy, Dysrhythmia, Flourishing, Flying Lotus, Four Tet, Goatwhore, Horrendous, Kendrick Lamar, Meshuggah, Necro Deathmort, Nihill, Nile, Noisear, Pharaoh Overlord, Plague Widow, Protestant, Tame Impala, Torch Runner, Tragedy, War from a Harlots Mouth, Wrathprayer

11 Nov 2011, 11:24 de Paakkinen1.What's the first song you heard by 15? (The Game)
- Nää on näitä kysymyksiä, joihin on melkeenpä mahdoton vastata.
2. How did you get into 20? (A Tribe Called Quest)
- Isoveikalle kuuluu kiitos tästä. Muistaakseni hän suositteli Tribea ja pistin The Anthology -kokoelman kuunteluun, "Can I Kick It" iski oikein huolella ja tässä sitä nyt ollaan. Kismitti vähäsen, kun en saanut kolmen päivän lippua kesän Flow-festareille, jossa Q-Tipin piti esiintyä perjantaina (olin la-su), mutta vahingonilo on paras ilo -sanonta piti taas paikkansa, kun herra peruutti esiintymisensä.
3. Who is your favourite member in 1? (Arctic Monkeys)
- Helppo. Alex Turner. Uskomaton ääni ja skeba soi loistavasti. …

23 Jun 2011, 20:55 de TakkeriI was aware of the controversy this album has sprouted, mainly because of The Dragontower taking part in the Eurovision song contest (not making it though). Anyway, Im glad Keep of Kalessin were "sell-out" enough to try, a good band amidst all that pop cannot do harm.
I heard so many negative things about this effort so it actually made me bypass the album as another probably mediocre/good album for a long time. While it's good to have those basic good albums, it really isn't that enjoyable to find a band who has brought up my modern black metal favourite, Armada, to make a mediocre album. Armada was a big find for me and one of those albums i'd classify as "genre-opener". You know these albums that make you feel like you have really found something new. A genre you knew, but didn't realize it could get this good.
I can't totally bash down the follower of Armada, Kolossus. It was a rather stellar album, but somehow seemed to just consist of one wave of fine sound with no particular ups and downs. …

15 Ago 2010, 19:22 de TakkeriFelt like writing my thoughts about some albums that i've listened lately. Albums that are included in this text are: Gaë Bolg and the Church of Fand - john barleycorn must die!, Barren Earth - Curse Of The Red River, Paavoharju - Laulu laakson kukista, Radiopuhelimet - Rakastaa sinua and Nevermore - The Obsidian Conspiracy. Last three being in Finnish.
Gaë Bolg and the Church of Fand - john barleycorn must die!
Wow, i really didn't dig Gae Bolg's version of The death of the west on Sol Invictus tribute Sol Lucet Omnibus, so I wasn' looking forward of this album. But once again randomizing my entire playlist brough it to my attention La Marche Des Morts to be exact. Absolutely brilliant song. I really like the dramatic compositions. Being a big John Barleycorn fan, Jean Grain D'orge Doit Mourir is interesting as well. The album seems to flow by very seamlessly, but so far only few songs have chilled me to the bone. …
