i also don't understand why people seem to think positive messages are a new thing for kendrick. he's always been a conscious rapper with a message -- it's just that his commentary usually runs a little deeper than "love yourself in the face of adversity"

i don't mind experimentation at all, i'd be more likely to be frustrated if he wasn't evolving. but i'm not feeling the new track that much -- the hook isn't very strong and it dominates the song. the production is alright (especially when it changes up towards the end, which is by far the best part of the song).

A lot of people are hating on it specifically for being positive lol

Just because someone doesn't like the song doesn't mean they hate positivity/good vibes or that they aren't open to change. Doesn't have to do with that, just not feeling the song

@LePlatypope - Totally agree, the lyrics (especially the chorus) are super corny

I love myself too but I wish I was agreeing to a different song (with the same beat). His lyrics are just.... not there.

Rappers shouldn't always have the same style, they gotta change, adjust. He's doing this. Ye did it, Jay did it.. 80s & Heartbreak was completely different than Graduation, Yeezus was GOAT and couldn't even be compared to MBDTF yet is was amazing! If you want the same shit over and over again go listen to a different genre. Great artists ain't afraid of getting in new grounds.
