Kate Rusby es una cantante folk del norte de Inglaterra, con un estilo que es fácil identificar sencillamente como «celta» debido a la participación en sus discos de artistas como Michael McGoldrick, flautista irlandés. Sin necesidad de encasillarla demasiado, lo más característico del estilo de Rusby es su estilo al tocar la guitarra, instrumento nada «celta» y que la coloca en una larga tradición folk. Sus canciones mezclan letras tradicionales de amores rotos, a veces con elementos eróticos y humorísticos; imitaciones propias del estilo tradicional; y canciones propias de aire muy íntimo, por ejemplo sobre su miedo a volar.
Esta artista está en activo desde que era una niña, y tiene su propio sello discográfico, por lo que es bastante prolífica. Va de gira incesantemente por el Reino Unido, y su miedo a volar impide que actúe en otros países.
