Here where I live, what shows in MTV is automatically mainstream. We don't have MTV2 or whatever program showing alternative artists (not alternative the genre, which is also mainstream). I don't know why this is so, but I have the impression that showing videos here is made primarily for commercial reasons, not that I don't think otherwise when it comes to other countries, I just feel it to be strong here.
Anyway, I used to burn loads of time watching MTV, but due to one reasons I cannot remember, I have stopped. I pass through it on the occassional channel-switching, just to catch a video that might intrigue me (and true enough, OK Go
's Treadmill Video did catch my fancy).
But yesterday, something caught my attention for a different reason. In my channel-flipping, almost everytime I stumbled on MTV Regina Spektor
's Fidelity was on. I watched it the first time I saw it, and was mildly entertained by her "indieness". But…
