KC and The Sunshine Band, es una banda estadounidense formada en 1973 en Miami, que se especializó en la música disco, Funk, R&B, Pop-Rock y Dance. La banda fue formada por Richard Finch y el vocalista y líder Harry Wayne Casey («KC»).
Desde mediados de los años 70, esta banda integrada por personas de distinta raza y encabezada por Harry Wayne “KC” Casey y Richard Finch, produjo los éxitos más reconocidos a la hora de bailar.
Con éxitos como “Get Down Tonight”, “That’s The Way (I Like It)” y “Shake Your Booty” KC & The Sunshine Band se convirtió en uno de los grandes protagonistas de la música pop. Junto a los Beatles y los Jackson Five, KC & The Sunshine Band se convirtió en el tercer artista en lograr colocar cuantro número uno en un solo año: “Boogie Shoes”, “Get Down Tonigh”, “That’s The Way (I Like It)” y “Rock Your Baby”.
Casey y Finch se conocieron en 1972 mientras trabajaban para TK Records en Miami. En ese entonces Casey trabajaba como secretario personal de Timmy Thomas y controlista. Finch, por su parte, era asistente de producción.
A Casey se le ocurrió la idea de hacer equipo con Finch para desarrollar sus talentos. “El se dio cuenta que yo tocaba el bajo y la batería, y yo me di cuenta de que él tocaba el teclado. Por eso cuando no había nadie en el estudio por las noches, subíamos a ver qué música sacábamos. Mucha gente tiraba cinta de grabación simplemente porque no sabía cómo borrarla correctamente. La cinta era cara por eso yo la sacaba del basurero, la borraba y la usaba para grabar.” Recuerda Richard Finch.
