Ha, yes I remember it was cold at the Star & Garter. I think there had been a power cut or something. Remember also that they played for almost two hours and finished very late. Reason I'm on here today is that I was at a guitar and booze party last night and sang Recline to Sensible in my Wil Johnston Centromatic style of singing. Could have done with a bit of help from Dave Burris....

Met up with this band as they were touring the North West of England in 2001?. I thought they were pretty good bought most of their albums and saw them whenever they were in UK. Wonder if they remember their Manchester dates (Star & Garter, Matt & Phredds, Band on the Wall etc)? Whenever I'm in an Americana mood this is one of the first bands I turn to - Pensacolo, Recline to Sensible etc. I loved the fact that they liked Nick Drake (Drakes Engine) and the Chameleons (Manchester band) and their version of Sandy Denny's John the Gun is one of my favourites. You can see how their interest in UK folk mixed with blue collar Americana gave birth to the Jolene style of country rock. I don't know what John and Dave and the rest of Jolene are up to these days, I hope they are still playing the circuits, but it saddens me to think that I'll probably never see them play again, except on You Tube. Right, I'm in an Americana mood and geuss what I'm going to play.....
