Diddy gave Jay his secret stash of Biggie beats for this

@ DickBigems : agreed, this may be Jay's best album production-wise! The soul samples complement the lyrics so well.

What a great album this is, Jay-Z and Diddy did a real great job of picking the samples and beats used on here. It very much feels like a hustler in the 1970's and Jay-Z delivered the concept wonderfully in his lyrics almost to the point where it sounds like he's rehashing to the days of Reasonable Doubt. It parallels to film well too.

idk, I always liked this album a lot. Even when it came out I was telling people this album is actually good but no one believed me. Like, the whole way through it's good.

This is a great album. Infact, this is his best since his so called retirement. Production is flawless with it's usage of live instrumentation and Jay's in on top form lyrically throughout .

i see why this is so acclaimed, but not for me really. good lyrics but as songs they're pretty subpar.
