INTO THE MOAT fue formado en Mayo de 2001 en Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, por el baterista Matthew Gossman, inicialmente como proyecto solista. Matthew grabó todos los instrumentos en varias demos, las que mostraba a sus amigos para lograr completar la alineación. Finalmente INTO THE MOAT se formó como banda con músicos jóvenes de entre 18 y 19 años. Una vez que la formación estuvo completa, INTO THE MOAT comenzaron a tocar conciertos, mejorando rápidamente su performance en directo, la que puede ser descrita como intensa y poderosa, cautivando totalmente al público en cada show. El estilo de la banda fue perfeccionado aún más cuando, en Enero de 2002, el bajista Kit Wray se cambió del bajo a la guitarra, haciéndose cargo del grueso de las labores de composición. En Mayo de 2003 la banda publicó un EP a través del sello Lovelost Records, obteniendo excelentes críticas en el underground y llamando la atención de Metal Blade Records. “Desde que comenzó la banda hace tres años, no hay nada que hayamos deseado más que estar en Metal Blade Records. Ellos ya existen por más de 20 años, y estamos extremadamente orgullosos de ser parte de esta historia de éxitos, sin mencionar el encontrarnos entre bandas realmente increíbles. Se siente muy bien el haber logrado lo que alguna vez pareció ser una meta inalcanzable. Con la ayuda de MB, seremos capaces de llevar esta banda muy lejos,” afirma Matthew.

I'd agree with The_Night_Head that A Textbook Tragedy are most similar to these guys. Except for the fact that Textbooks' drummer is 1,000 times better. Nothing against the Moats' drummer, he's good but Nick Yacyshyn is one of the best I've ever heard.

The end of Prologue always gives me the chills. It reminds me of the old torture films I used to watch where these sick, twisted men would do the most horrible, depraved things imaginable to the human body, whilst listening to some of the most beautifully composed classical music ever.
