Inkubus Sukkubus se formo el verano de 1989 cuando Tony McKormack, Candia Ridley y Adam Henderson se conocieron en la universidad donde estudiaban diseño grafico. Ellos compartian gran interes por el paganismo, brujería y el vampirismo, ademas de ganas de formar una banda.
El nombre que eligieron fue Incubus Succubus: la idea era (al igual que hoy) ser el vehiculo para transmitir el paganismo.
Despues de estar trabajando durante un año la banda lanzó su primer single «Beltaine». Despues de eso hubo cambios de formacion donde solo siguieron Candia y Tony bajo el nombre de Children of the Moon, cuyo material fue muy bien recibido por la creciente escena underground.
En diciembre de 1991 Bob, el batero original de IS se volvio a unir a la banda y con esto el proyecto Incubus Succubus renació. La banda tocó en Gloucestershire, Bristol, Oxford, y lanzaron todo el material de Children on the Moon en un album bautizado Beltaine.
En 1992 grabaron el disco Belladonna & Aconite.
En 1993 consiguen lanzar Belladonna & Aconite en Octubre y Wytches en Abril de 1994 bajo Pagan Records. Durante el tour de 1993 tocan con Nosferatu y se presentan seguido en The Marquee de Londres y en Rock City de Nottingham. Los seguidores de la banda empezaron a crecer al igual que su fama ya que aparecieron en la BBC y en varias revistas Europeas y americanas.
En 1994 grabaron Corn King , dieron 2 tours por el Reino Unido, tocaron en Paris y compartieron escenario con The Damned, Zodiac Mindwarp, Clawfinger, Patricia Morrison y The Marionettes.
