Iggy Pop's "The Passenger" is definitely a most underrated piece of music. It's an ideal track to hear when you're pissed off, angry, energetic or just when driving along - especially in a hurry. It's got a pounding beat that just keeps pushing forward and it, well, kicks ass.
A good friend of mine is fond of a cover version, done by Michael Hutchence and found on the Batman Forever soundtrack. For her, that version is forever linked to a memorable roleplaying experience, a ride on the back of a dragon. I, however, prefer the original version. It doesn't evoke any feelings of swooping or sweeping or any other convenient flying euphemisms, it just keeps going and going, giving you a feeling of a constant ride in a car, through the city, through the suburbs and out into the free world yonder.
The feel is very gritty. Pop's voice won't be considered tender at the best of times, and here he's at his ruggedest. Brings to mind 50's Film Noir and 70's Slums & Drugs feel-bad movies…

Quinta feira, dia de shows na Obra. Fui lá pra conferir o show d'As Cobras Malditas e o King Khan & BBQ. Já tinha um tempo que eu queria ver o show das Cobras Malditas e eu perdi o show do BBQ ano passado. Não vou ficar aqui punhetando sobre quem são os caras, o pouco que eu sei eu vi no site da turnê deles.

O que eu quero é falar do show dos caras. Começando pelas Cobras Malditas. Já tinha visto o projeto anterior do vocalista, chamava Black Mambas e era uma dupla em que o vocalista Psycho era acompanhado pelo Marco Butcher, então do Thee Butcher's Orchestra e agora em projeto solo chamado Uncle Butcher. O som era massa, um cantando e o outro tocando bateria e tocando guitarra, eles abriram o show da Margaret Doll Rod na Obra.

Mas estou aqui pra falar é do show de quinta! As Cobras Malditas abriram a noite botando fogo na Obra. Uma mistura de punk, blues e soul que não deixou ninguem parado. A performance dos caras também chamou a atenção. …

i've been pretty much letting winamp spin thru randomly playing songs and rediscovering all kinds of gems i'd nearly forgotten i owned and it's made me all warm and gooey for more music that i either still need to rip from my vinyl collection or go out and buy or whatever.
