banda de origen britanico formada en el verano de 1969 bajo el nombre de «Hawkwind Zoo» durante aquella epoca en la que ya venía tomando forma este particular estilo de musica que posteriormente se conoció mundialmente con el nombre de «space rock» y en el cual, PINK FLOYD (en una de sus etapas) consiguió alzarse como su mayor exponente.
En aquellos años los «chicos» de Hawkwind… , bajo el liderato de quien ha sido el único miembro de la banda a lo largo de todos estos años que es parte de la alineación original, el vocalista, guitarrista y liricista del grupo Dave Brock, consiguieron una oferta de grabación con Liberty Records que los impulsaría a la fama y a la consagración en este particular estilo. Si bien es cierto, en sus comienzos la influencia del grupo era el blues, rápidamente su oferta adquirió tintes propios y se hizo clara: ROCK. «Space Rock». Puro, desordenado, pegado y pesado. Tal vez un tanto menos «psicotizado» de lo que nos acosumbró The Pink Floyd Sound durante esos años (estos chicos no disponían de un Barrett en las guitarras y las vocales), pero no así menos potente e interesante.
Una banda con una carrera que recorre ya más de 35 años, con más de 30 discos y que ha visto pasar por sus integrantes a Lemmy Kilmester (posteriormente parte de «Motorhead»), Paul Rudolph (posteriormente parte de «Pink Faries»), Ginger Baker o Arthur Brown, entre muchísimos otros.
