9 Feb 2014, 0:39 de BromadrosisFor this edition, rather than a point system, I shall employ a new system that is intended simply to give a general impression of the quality of a release.
If a release isn't rated yet, it just means I put it in the list so as not to forget to listen to and rate it later ;-)
Obviously these ratings are coloured by personal taste, so, you know, chill out if I say something you like is the musical equivalent of horse manure.

20 Ene 2013, 4:20 de DreadspellEraSo about 20 days into the new year, I've managed to compile a list of albums I really liked from last year that I'm perfectly happy with and will be for about 2 months before discovering something from last year that's like 40 million times better or some shit. Like before, if I missed something or you just have something to say about this list, just say so in the comments section.
10. Orkan - Vintersorg
9. Pneuma - Hail Spirit Noir
8. Lure Of The Occult - Backyard Mortuary
7. Bury the Light - Pharaoh
6. Tales of the Weird - Paradox
5. To the End - Orden Ogan
4. Deathammer - Asphyx (oh wow an album I was heavily anticipating since last year actually impressed me, how fucking quaint)
3. CVI - Royal Thunder
2. Silverthorn - Kamelot
1. The Stars Bode You Farewell - Bound by Entrails
There were plenty of albums that came close - Bakken's "Death Of A Hero" had some great fucking songs, but it had a few very weak moments that stopped it short of being #10 on this list. …
19 Ene 2013, 17:51 de MATI9630Better late than never.
…or so they say? Well, it is kinda late, but then again, I was too greedy – wanted to rat—I mean, listen to so much music, hence the delay.
Note that my rating scale may (and probably will) differ from yours. Short summary:
9 – amazing
8 – very good, recommended for everyone
7 – not bad, if you like the genre/band very much, you might give it a try…
6 – well, you CAN listen to it, but there’s no point. Boring/annoying for some reason. Not recommended (maybe if you’re a fanboy of the band – but in that case you’d already own the album)
Anything below 6 – no. Just no.
This or the Apocalypse – Dead Years // I’d rather have the Apocalypse…
All That Remains – A War You Can Not Win
As I Lay Dying – Awakened
Ektomorf – Black Flag
Every Time I Die – Ex Lives
Arthemis – We Fight
At Vance – Facing Your Enemy
Cradle of Filth – The Manticore and Other Horrors
Delain – We Are the Others
DragonForce – The Power Within
Eluveitie – Helvetios
7 Ene 2013, 8:04 de ZadionApocalayaI meant to have this posted over a week ago, but I've been sitting on it this entire time because of the #10 spot. There were so many choices for it, and I kept listening to each option over and over trying to decide which I prefer. Ultimately, I ended up picking the current #10 just because it has the prettiest cover. This kind of confusion tells me 2012 has been a good year for music overall. Out of all the albums I found even slightly disappointing, only one of them got a fairly low rating. More importantly, this has been a stellar year for new artists. Two of these albums are debut albums, and one of the albums that fought for #10 is one too.
Honorable Mention: Swallow the Sun - Emerald Forest and the Blackbird
As with last year, this year's honorable mention isn't a tremendous album worthy of top 10. Rather, this is one of the two albums that surprised me the most. …
7 Ene 2013, 2:37 de BromadrosisHi, boys and girls.
Basically, this is a list of the releases from 2012 that I enjoyed the most out of the few hundred that I heard. I didn't go for a psychologically satisfying number, I'm just throwing them all out there and you can decide for yourselves which of these are the best 20 or 30 or whatever the fuck have you.
They are somewhat ranked, however do not read too much into this, because every last one of these is recommended listening for anyone into, well let's just call it extreme music for want of a better term. And but also, when comparing apples and oranges it really all depends on which particular fruit you happen to be in the mood for anyway.
And please note: This is NOT everything I liked. This is everything I liked the MOST.
Also, don't get too anal about genre denominations. The adjectives are there for the benefit of people who might be new to some of this shit :-P
Obviously, some genres are more represented than others. …
