Green Carnation fue formada en Noruega a principios de los 90 por Tchort (Carpathian Forest, Blood Red Throne, ex-Emperor, etc.), Anders Kobro (Carpathian Forest, In The Woods…) y los hermanos Botteri (In The Woods…). Comenzó como una banda de death metal, como lo demuestra su demo «Hallucinations Of Despair» (1990), pero años después se aparcaría el proyecto, yendo los Botteri y Kobro a dar nacimiento a una de las bandas más influentes del metal noruego: In The Woods… De esta manera Tchort queda solo en Green Carnation, con quien no vuelve a editar nada hasta la disolución de In The Woods. … momento en que los Botteri vuelven a GC y se edita «Journey To The End Of The Night» (1999). Tras un cambio importante en la formación nace su disco más aclamado: «Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness» (2001), el cual consta de una sola pista de 60 minutos de duración.
A partir de entonces GC produce discos de un estilo musical algo distinto que los dos primeros LP, a los que titula «A Blessing In Disguise» (2003), «The Quiet Offspring» (2005) y el último de su carrera, «Acoustic Verses» (2006), ya que a finales de 2007, tras unos problemas discográficos y de fondos económicos, la banda decide disolverse como tal, volviendo a quedar sólo Tchort, quien afirma seguir adelante con el proyecto, pero no de manera tan activa.
En cuanto a DVD, cuentan con la edición de dos: «Alive And Well? In Krakow» y «A Night Under The Dam» (2007).
