• The Concert

    The Jazz - Indian classical concert lived up to its expectations. I am going gaga over Jazz and Indian classical fusion.

    The artists who performed in this event were
    Hariprasad Chaurasia on Bamboo Flute (Bansuri)
    George Brookson Saxophone
    Steve Smith on Drums
    Vijay Ghate on Tabla
    Kai Eckhardt on Bass and
    Fareed Haque on Guitars
    Kaveri Agashe added the magical touch of Kathak.

    Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia started with Raag Hemavathi, a blissful devotional raag (and probably a morning Raaga too) and then had a nice Jugalbandhi with Vijay Ghate. Contrary to popular opinion, the alap and parts before the Jugalbandhi were the most magical moments for me. I could remember some tunes from Hindi movie songs here and there. Those music directors have to get their stuff from somewhere within the Raaga database of classical music anyway!

    That was the first part of the concert. Then the Jazz artists took over. George Brooks plays a unique mix of Indian classical and Jazz. …
