Emily Haines es una artista que desafia las etiquetas. Cantante de la banda Metric, ha sacado su primer album solista, «Knives Don´t Have Your Back» (literalmente: Los Cuchillos no te defienden), el otoño de 2007 con la discografica Last Gang. Las canciones fueron escritas y grabadas los últimos 4 años en Los Angeles, Montreal, Toronto y New York. En el disco podemos escuchar contribuciones de Scott Minorde de Sparklehorse, Justin Peroff de Broken Social Scene, Evan Cranley de Stars y Jimmy Shaw de Metric. Bastante diferente del sonido bailable y marcado de Metric, este disco es una colección intima y sutil de canciones suaves y con mucho piano complementadas por suaves arreglos de cuerdas y vientos.

Her father was a poet, and I don't know if because of it or not, her lyrics are very unique. Her voice is also unique, and I think it fits piano sound more than rock sound of Metric.
