Hardcore Backlog - Part 2: 2009
6 May 2009, 4:27 de FangsFirst
January 09:
Scott Weiland's 12 Bar Blues solo album
Prince's Parade and Prince (completing my set of his records during my favourite period of his recording--the late 70s and early 80s)
Judas Priest's Point of Entry (completing my "Non-Live Priest with Halford" collection, barring the last two albums)
Leon Russell's Hank Wilson's Back
Blue Öyster Cult's Blue Öyster Cult, Fire of Unknown Origin and Extraterrestrial Live in a box set that I can find no record of the existence of on the internet.
Genesis' 1970-1975 box set, which includes Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England By The Pound and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. Love this stuff. Surprised how much.
The Euphrates anthology, with A Bend in the River and Stereotypes Incorporated in it.
Tangerine Dream's Phaedra
Doomtree's False Hopes 13
Deep Purple's Deep Purple In Rock
Fine Young Cannibals' Fine Young Cannibals and The Raw And The Cooked
Randy Newman's Sail Away (alas, without bonus tracks)

Kelly Groucutt, basista i wokalista Electric Light Orchestra., zmarł 19 lutego na atak serca. Miał 63 lata.
- Jestem kompletnie rozbity - powiedział frontman formacji Mike Sheridan and The Nightriders, zespołu, która, podobnie jak ELO, powstał w brytyjskim Birmingham. – Kiedy otrzymałem tę informację nie mogłem uwierzyć. To był wielki talent, wspaniały wokalista. To wielka strata.

Music and feelings

I know I can't be the only one experiencing this phenomenon. I just wonder how other people react to music in certain situations...
For example, there are some albums I can listen to, and the memories I have associated with them will just bring me into a wonderful mood, no matter how I'm feeling. Face the Music is one of those albums, and so is Songs About Jane. I can listen to them and just be transported to summer days, where all I did was listen to those albums over and over again. There's also a handful of songs, pop or otherwise, that make their way into my "summer songs" playlist. Anytime I get sick of spending time surrounded by snow, I just put on that playlist, and everything is better. Greatest Hits by the Moody Blues brings me back to the days when I had my first apartment, and a good stereo, and all I would do is sit in my room, play Chrono Trigger, and listen to this CD. (My friend Justin ruined Gemini Dream for me, though, with his alternate lyrics, mostly consisting of "danananananana… -

If you are lucky, you are a good musician.
More luck - you are a composer too.
Much more luck - you are a producer either.
Best of all - you are
Jeff Lynne
co-founder and member of
* Electric Light Orchestra
* Mike Sheridan & The Nightriders
and
* The Idle Race
had been the first bands guitar player Jeff Lynne had been a member of.
And soon he started as a producer and a friend of strings in the songs.
Another musician of Mike Sheridan & The Nightriders,
Roy Wood
got famous with the hits of
* The Move
and invited Mr. Lynne to join in. Togehter they recorded
- Looking On
in 1970 and one year later
- Message From The Country
with drummer
Roy "Bev" Bevan.
1971 had been the year
of the first record of the Electric Light Orchestra
- No Answer
Most of the instruments were played by Mr. Wood and Mr. Lynne.
They both sang the leading vocals too.
Mr. Bevan still played drums and the added musicians,
