Sun 22 Jan – Dropkick Murphys, Šank?!

Treći put da gledam koncert Dropkick Murphys, prvi u Zagrebu. Znao sam da ništa ne može nadmašiti onaj prvi put. Bila je 2004. godina, talijanska varošica Basano Del Grapa je imala taj klub na prvom katu shopping centra gdje su se održavali gigovi bendova koji su u to vrijeme zaobilazili naše krajeve, poput The Casualties, The Business, Bouncing Souls i sličnih. Taj put je Dejan preko Backpacka sredio upade i dogovorio nam intervju s Dropkick Murphys, a predgrupe su bile Roger Miret & The Disasters i Frenzal Rhomb. I dok je razgovor s Mattom Kellyjem prošao OK, ali ništa spektakularno (no ipak zanimljivije od one korektne dosade koju je napravio Arsen Oremović u Forumu), uspjeli smo užicati Rogera Mireta za vju. I dok smo razgovarali s njim, pridružio nam se i Kerry Martinez koji je tad svirao u Disastersima, a u jednom trenu do nas je sjeo i Al Barr. Klokan i ja smo se pogledali i u tom trenu pomislili istu stvar; razgovaramo sa Rogerom iz Agnostic Fronta, Kerryjem iz Shattered Faitha i U. …

10. Dropkick Murphys - Going Out in Style
Their most 'Irish' album yet, a real change from the previous one and arguably much better for it. The whole concept album thing didn't really stick with me, but still a great collection of songs.

9. Banner Pilot - Heart Beats Pacific
On paper better than Collapser, but for whatever reason I never really got into it. Still, massive hooks and upliftingly depressing lyrics make it a great album. They're gonna have to mix it up a bit next time or face becoming the next Pennywise...

8. Dave Hause - Resolutions
'Punk man goes solo' is getting a bit tiresome at the minute, but albums such as this prove it can still be effective if given enough thought. On the surface its a pretty basic album, but there's just an honesty and sincerity in the lyrics and delivery that stuck with me.

One of the hardest working bands in the UK, but they've actually got the songs to back it up. …

So, it's that time of year again, the old year has passed, and we all like to make some sort of sense of it, or evaluate it. And the most common way of doing so seems to be the good old albums of the year lists. I did a top 5 last year, but I think I'm going to be a mad head and do a top 10 this year. So without further ado

Studio Albums
10. Kate Voegele - Gravity Happens

I surprised myself a little with this one. I was unsure what was going to take tenth place, and of all the albums, this seemed the one that I've wanted to listen to most. A bit a late comer for me, I hadn't really taken to it when it first came out, and it's only in these last few months that's it's really grabbed me. I think it's the vocal melodies that really make me love this album. Perhaps a bit out of place with the rest of the list, but I don't really care.
