    South American Tour 2015 ♥ :D

You're not disagreeing with Charlotte. She said WatO's shortcomings were due to both the production and the interfering "outside help" of the producers, who apparently made them do things they didn't want to do with the songs (I recall some suggestions to that effect in the 2011 studio diary blog posts). And she said they felt much freer this time to work outside standard formulae.

And I don't think that We are the others sounded poppy because of production. The structure of the songs is totally pop, with a poppy production. In this album the structure of some songs isn't that predictable, the production is heavier, and the music and arrangements are more complex than WATO and Interlude. It's not an extreme metal album obviusly xD, but it's a metal album, and their most metalish album IMO.

Not getting any of the hate for Here come the vultures. Easily one of their best tracks, and each track on the album is great, such a fantastic album. Anyway, review of the Wembley Show with Within Temptation if anyone's interested: http://swirlsofnoise.com/2014/04/13/within-temptation-and-delain-at-wembley-arena-12042014/

"Here Come the Vultures" and "My Masquerade" are the only bad songs on The Human Contradiction (including the two bonus tracks).

Wow, nowadays I'm almost too skeptical most of the time when it comes to new material from bands I listen, but this may really be their best album. And this feeling just after one listen. :) April Rain has stood tallest until now.

The Human Contradiction <3 Delain's best album. I'm so glad that their albums only get better.

I wonder whether we'll be visited in the coming days by a South American online metal journalist posting a link to a one-paragraph descriptive article about the Stardust video, hoping to lead Spanish-speaking lastfm users who were unaware of the video to follow his blog as a source of "news." There is certainly a precedent for that sort of thing. v If you're srs... uh, I haven't read Lilith's Brood, but the song is someone waking up after a nuclear holocaust ("we did it to ourselves") and the hope for the future of mankind comes through space aliens. So the video illustrates that with the dilapidated house and greenscreen desert wasteland / spacey stuff. I don't think there's anything deeper to it than that, I'll ask a friend who's read the books :3

I don't understand the new music video. It's too deep for me.

Martijn said "we write pop songs in a really heavy coat." Maybe the production sound ("coat") on WatO wasn't heavy enough for them. Maybe the songs were forced into a more formulaic box by the producers. (THC certainly has some more interesting structures and choices than WatO, while retaining the signature pop style.) For me WatO and THC are about even. I like the lyrics on THC better, and Tragedy of the Commons surpasses Not Enough (which was TOO SHORT), but WatO had a couple more killer compositions in Generation Me and Electricity, either of which is IMO superior to THC's equivalent contenders, being Army of Dolls and Sing to Me. Then the rest of THC as a whole surpasses the rest of WatO, but I remain less impressed now than I was at this point after WatO came out. Partly because reviewers praised THC so highly.

Meh, I don't think We Are The Others is that much poppier than April Rain. And what about Martijn's proud statements about pop metal? :/

Stardust video v Charlotte said (translated): "We didn't start writing with the idea of changing our sound. 'We Are the Others' was the only album we recorded with outside aid. We are grateful to the team of producers who worked on it, but their external interference had an obvious impact. We still like the album, but on "The Human Contradiction," Napalm Records gave us confidence as musicians. We felt free to play the music we wanted, to write it our way. Even if someone had a strange experimental idea, we were open to using it, because it came from spontaneous creativity. The album is different, due both to that compositional approach, and to the production. Martijn produced it, and he was the man behind 'Lucidity' and 'April Rain.' He teamed up with Fredrik Nordström and Henrik Udd of Fredman Studio, who worked with In Flames, HammerFall, etc."

New album is a great return to form Way better than gods-awful commercial mess that was Interlude. Certainly better than majority of We are the Others. A whole lot closer to Lucidity and April Rain(their best albums). It certainly seems that they walked away from selling out that was going on. Now if only other good bands (within temptation, for example) got back to producing good quality stuff.

Oh well, as long as she doesn't parade into ice cream shops asking if they have soy-milk ice cream only to walk demonstratively out when they clearly don't. Italian vegans once organised via Facevook and did it to have "their voice" heard nationally, and I pitied them a lot because the whipped cream I was tasting while I witnessed that was out of this world... Oh, and I was wearing true leather shoes too.

This is SO ON TOPIC THOUGH. THE TOPIC CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE HOW MUCH WE'RE ON IT RIGHT NOW. Exactly: I respect the vegan lifestyle and the benefits it provides, I choose not to do that, and I really don't want to be questioned about it every time I listen to a song I like. Charlotte has control of the Delain Facebook page, but she has never posted about this. Not even a "Hey look at this and think about it" kind of post. Even that inoffensive, trying-to-be-helpful approach might annoy some fans, but it's just a Facebook post, no big deal. Putting it in a song with incriminating tones is far, far worse.

v(insert how ever many arrows to Andro's reply to me because it's late at night and I hate counting.) WHAT Charlotte, you are on the dark side now? Not that being a vegan is bad, but being a preachy ANYTHING is pretty annoying when it comes to lyrics for general listeners (see: Mark Jansen) I mean, doesn't the fact that one animal can provide sustenance to another make both their lives more meaningful? HAVE YOU NEVER SEEN LION KING? I didn't even eat meat until I was around 16 because my mom was a vegetarian, and now I can't get enough of dat stuff. lol Nightbox 2.0 levels of off topicness.

My dad occasionally makes this black stew of boiled blood, which smells so horrendously awful that I've never even tried it. On the other hand he likes his roast beef very well done, no blood. (I like to, as one of my high school friends used to say, "Savor the juiciness. Of the dead cow.")
