Osaka, Japón (1997 – presente)

Dir en grey es una banda japonesa con participación en diferentes géneros músicales y que, a lo largo de su historia, ha tenido severos cambios visuales y musicales; desde una imágen propia del (y sonidos típicos de ese movimiento) hasta llegar a algo totalmente distinto, como lo es el metal. Comenzaron en la región de Osaka, Japón, en 1997 y su alineación no ha cambiado desde entonces.

Las raíces de Dir en grey se remontan a la banda independiente La:Sadie’s, que incluía a 4 de los actuales integrantes de Dir en grey. Después de disolverse la agrupación y de la ida del bajista Kisaki (Dueño actual del sello Under-Code), Kyo, Kaoru, Die y Shinya junto con el nuevo bajista Toshiya se unieron brevemente en un grupo llamado Deathmask, pero después cambiaron ese nombre por Dir en grey tras un show en Nagano en 1997.

Un par de meses después sacaron a la venta un EP llamado MISSA. En 1998 se convirtieron en la primera banda japonesa independiente que llegara a las listas del Oricon, después del lanzamiento de sus primeros sencillos JEALOUS y -I’ll-. Esto llamó la atención de Yoshiki (X JAPAN) , quien fue el productor de los sencillos de su segundo álbum GAUZE, lanzado en 1999. Largas giras siguieron al lanzamiento del disco, uno de estos (filmado en el Osakajo Hall) se convirtió en una de sus primeras presentaciones grabadas para VHS y DVD.

    Check out Malice Mizer - Bara No Seidou (their last album), a complex beautiful, dark and haunting Avant-Garde Electro-Baroque Classical Dark Wave Metal Goth masterpiece completely out of the superficial Visual Kei scene...it has some kitsch moments, but most of the time, the music is filled with despair of not seeing the morning rise. They made this album right after their drummer's death, Kami, so it explains most of the emotional process surrounding the album

    I haven't been following the VK or jrock scene very close for the past couple of years, are there any albums and Es worth checking out? The only bands I still follow closely are Merry, heidi and Dir en grey I gues. Anything I worth checking out?

    they had to put something in and they probably didnt manage to get the original deluxe tracks, so they decided to put in older remakes as they thought it was fitting. Nothing amazing but not anything really stupid too.

    The European edition of THE UNRAVELING will include 4 bonus tracks: undecided, Zan, OBSCURE and Tsumi to Kisei. I'm assuming they're the re-recorded versions.
