Cult of Luna es una banda de swedish sludge y de post-metal fundada en Umeå. El grupo se formó en 1998 a partir de una banda de hardcore punk llamada Eclipse. Con sus dos primeros discos Cult of Luna (2001) y The Beyond (2003), el grupo se ganó el aprecio de la crítica y una popularidad underground. No obstante, fue con el lanzamiento de su álbum Salvation (Earache Records - 2004) cuando el grupo se estableció como uno de los líderes del género. Reduciendo el aspecto agresivo inherente del doom el grupo empezó a llamar la atención de un conjunto más amplio de fans. En 2006 presentaron Along the Highway, este álbum con un sonido más suave que los anteriores consiguió reseñas positivas en la prensa mainstream.
