La banda Control Denied se formó por Chuck Schuldiner para crear una poderosa mezcla de metal, mezclado con elementos de death metal como su anterior banda (Death). La banda se inició en 1996; Schuldiner quería adquirir un estilo más melódico que fue posible con Death. El proyecto fue interrumpido por su conocido album The sound of perseverance en 1998, pero finalmente el álbum debut fue lanzado en 1999. Un segundo álbum, provisionalmente titulado When Man And Machine Collide, por parte, de la muerte de Schuldiner en 2001, pone en vilo las grabaciones. El resto de los miembros de la banda han expresado el deseo de completar y liberar el material. Sin embargo, todavía existe una controversia jurídica sobre los derechos de los materiales con Karmageddon Media, más el aplazamiento de la finalización y puesta en libertad. Una parte de estas piezas incompletas (grabaciones) fueron puestos en libertad en con el Zero Tolerance en dos partes de caras-b de Chuck y temas inéditos.
