Hace unos tres años, el hiperactivo Andy Laplegua decidió publicar sus primeros trabajos como Combichrist. Por aquel entonces Icon of Coil se había convertido en una de las bandas más reconocidas de la escena ebm / synthpop gracias a su cuidada producción y a unos estribillos demoledores. Pese a la contundencia de sus temas siempre se caracterizaron por la limpieza de su sonido, lo que les permitió llegar tanto al público seguidor de los sonidos más duros como a los aficionados al synthpop. Algunos años después del nacimiento de la banda, LaPlegua cambió Noruega por los Estados Unidos, donde se encuentra actualmente la base de Combichrist y de sus otros proyectos Scandy y Panzer AG.
La música elaborada por Combichrist también desprendía muchísima fuerza y se encontraba enfocada a la pista, pero a diferencia de Icon of Coil decidieron combinar el ebm con elementos propios del industrial más accesible. El resultado fue una serie de temas que combinaban calidad y efectividad, algo que les llevo a hacerse rápidamente con las pistas de los clubes oscuros. Actualmente Combichrist se encuentra en uno de sus mejores momentos, pudiendo llegar a superar en popularidad a Icon of Coil, cosa que no es de extrañar si tenemos en cuenta que la banda de Sebastián Komor lleva un tiempo inactiva (salvo reediciones y remezclas) .
