Set in Stone, and Steel Chambers.
I need to preface this by saying, I want to like these albums, as I have known, Shane, Ben, and Brin for MANY years, and wish them nothing but the best of luck.
That said, let us get to the crux of the review.
Instrumentally, Cold Driven stand slightly higher than many other bands of similiar sound, that being nu-metal, with the occasional floating jazz, blues and death metal influences popping up unexpectedly.
They have a good, if not amazing metal riffing sound, with nice hooks and excellent drumming.
The bass-work fades to the back too often for my liking, and at times the mix on both albums becomes sludgy and muddled.
The vocals though, kill it for me. They sound too much like so many other bands of a similiar sound, derivative and packaged. No real uniqueness involved vocally, with a middling range and no real passion coming through. Generic Nu-metal vocals, over slightly iinteresting nu-metal music.
